From: KamikazePotato | Posted: 1/25/2012 4:12:18 PM | #149 The trial has been amazingly predictable so far. Everything has gone exactly the way we expected it. The only 'unexpected' thing that happened was Togami being more of a boss than we could have imagined.
That doesn't mean it's bad. I've loved the trial so far. It's still gone all according to plan.
Yeah, this. There's no reason to assume that the game will throw a curveball that we can't handle because everything it threw at us so far(Syo reveleation, Togami not being the culprit) is something we predicted. So I don't think there's absolutely anything the game could throw at us right now that we couldn't see it coming from a mile away.
(Also, I don't mean to be a Super High School Level Dick here, I just come off this way when talking about murder mysteries. Sorry if it sounds like I'm being a dick for no reason)
If the culprit is anyone but Syo, Fukawa, Togami, Celestia, Hagakure, Oogami or Asahina, then the answer is coming COMPLETELY out of the blue, and the entire investigation has been nothing but red herrings. Those are the only people who have had anything to do with the changing rooms, Fujisaki, or the whole Identity Card thing.
If the entire investigation has been NOTHING but misdirection, then this game story ends up being kind of stupid, because there's no point in trying to "figure out the mystery" when everything we do gets tossed out the window for something new at the last minute. The culprit isn't Mondo.
Gotta love that thread. They literally have to pull the "MONDO COULDN'T HAVE DOCTORED THE SCENE" card every five minutes even though nobody is actually claiming that.
I'll be amazed if we finish this LP without closing it 'til the next update a couple times. It's not hard to see why the arguments about the guilty party go on and on (and on, and on...). The game is completely unfamiliar to the vast majority of the goons reading the thread, and everyone wants to prove they're Sherlock Holmes. People start to identify with their arguments, and we wind up in a forum remake of 12 Angry Men.
The evidence, such as it is, points to Togami or Fukawa. It's all circumstantial, sure, but for anyone else, it barely qualifies as conjecture. Most of it's fueled by goons going all meta about the narrative. By the time we hit chapter 4, we'll have people saying, "oh it was OBVIOUS from the start Chihiro was murdered by Asahina in a peyote-induced rage after Hifumi slipped the drug into her donuts at Celes' behest; this game makes things way too easy." Guaranteed.
Update! Nothing too surprising, mostly a confirmation of stuff we heavily suspected. The Mondo culprit is more or less confirmed now, though I'll expect we'll see some more whining in the SA thread.

It was confirmed the moment I said it was the correct answer.
*Bitterly argues that even if Togami isn't the culprit, it must have been Hagakure, because he's on the Chapter's cover and, like... is somewhat vaguely suspicious*

*Sighs and waits for update to reveal how HAGUILE IS THE GREATEST DETECTIVE TO EVER LIVE AND SHUT UP ALL YOU OF LOWLY PEASANTS MURDER MYSTERIES ARE MY TERRITORY I'M THE GODDAMN KING HERE*
In all seriousness though, just watch most people in the SA thread go all "Pff... you were just lucky" or "Probably played the game before or looked at spoilers. There's no way the case was solvable" after you and KP are proven right.

Someone should make a list of the stupidest things people said. Especially if they said it in a conceited manner. Just so you can quote back the savoury bits to their face every time they bring out something stupid in later chapters.

"I can't really see anyone else as being the murderer at this point besides Togami. I think he had some super air tight case which is why he doctored everything up to look one way so he could come out and be like "...since you all think it was me well how about this!" and shoot down all the evidence. He didn't think anyone would notice the room change or Fujisaki being a man so now he's on the ropes."

I would make a list of smug stupid stuff people said...but that wouldn't be fair to the topic creator. It wouldn't be anything but trouble for his topic.
Its a forum game based on the game Dangan Ronpa thats currently being LPd here:
You dont need to read the LP to understand how to play this game.
Okay, so what is it?
Its a murder mystery game, with the following setting. Sixteen students are locked inside a school with no way to communicate with the outside world. Needless to say, they want to get out. BUT! There are only two ways to get out of there and both involve graduating. How do you graduate? There are two ways.
One is to make to the final 3 players. The other is to kill another player and dont get caught.
How does killing/investigating work?
Its pretty simple. There are two periods, day and night. Day goes from 7:00 to 22:00, and night goes from 22:01 to 6:59. During the day, anything you do will be posted in the thread and will remain visible to everyone else. During the night, everyone must PM me informing me what their characters did from 22:01 to 6:59. Anything you do during the night wont be publicly noted in the topic, but if another character is in the same place as you during the night, theyll see you so...yeah.
If you want to kill somebody, you basically gotta do it at night unless you get ridiculously creative and set up a trap at night so that it goes off during the day or something.
For investigating, though where you are investigating will remain public, the results will be sent via pm.
The host(me) will also reveal what the crime scene looks like in general.
How do we select a culprit?
After everybody got their chance to investigate, well move on to the trial phase. The trial phase works like this:
Everybody gets to announce their findings(with the option not to disclose something if they dont want to) and then say who they think the culprit is based on what logic. You can prove somebodys logic to be wrong by revealing your evidence. This lasts for real-world 48 hours or until everybody casts their votes. Their votes are public and can be changed at any time, but if all votes are cast, then the game automatically moves on to execution.
Execution?

And yeah that's where I stopped writing. There would also be a chance to choose your talent based on a few pre-made things, and a "it would take X amount of time to go from Y in the map to Z in the map" to make time management matter more during the night. Or else day 1 would be like everyone murdering everyone else!
I'm going to post the rules again later when I finish writing them to run them by you guys again, but any suggestions/worries that jump out so far?
If the culprit is guessed by the majority, they're executed. It's too easy for them to get away if one or two people don't figure them out, and there needs to be some sort of risk involved with killing someone.
I actually had some ideas for modifying the old Umineko mystery game inspired by Dangan Ronpa, too, so that's a happy coincidence.
