QTEs, when used right, can be a good thing. They can also be a sign of lazy design. But they can also be used to add interactivity and player choice where it wouldn't normally go. Heavy Rain is the best example of this. As much as I rag on that game for almost every other aspect of it, it really nailed how QTEs should be done. The "press X to not die" ones you find in a lot of games are very annoying at times, but they aren't all. Look at examples like the awesome Ace Combat one posted, or the ones you find in Assassin's Creed. Speaking of which:

QTE I used to love until it got ridiculously overused and kind of saturated the industry.

But RE4 did them brilliantly and God of War has consistently done them well. I also enjoyed them in Tomb Raider Legend but maybe that's because they were still relatively new then.

And yes, hugging Leonardo Da Vinci is brilliant. The guy is a total boss and deserves a hug from a fellow total boss.

you're not really making a choice, you either catch the QTE in time and hug him or you miss it and either live with it or reload

that sounds like it was the experience of most people from the youtube comments section

I guess QTEs have an advantage over menus in that you have to make a quick decision, but I'm willing to live without that personally! there's something neat about leaving a Persona conversation without resolution for 15 minutes while I go grab food.
