so basically Paradigm shift is a inbattle class change ? and its a simple way of telling your allies what to do

so far theres an offensive one and a defensive one

in the defensive, they take on the roles of tanks and healers, called Sentinels and Medics

and in the offensive one, they take on the roles of fighters, called Commandos and Ravagers, but I don't know the difference between the two

and I'm assuming the Crystarium is basically the grid in which you develop their classes, and later on, customize each character's classes and even set up the paradigm shifts to your liking

Pretty much

Also, the difference between Commandos and Ravagers is that Commandos use physical attacks and Ravagers use magic.

The importance of physical attacks and magic will be explained more throughout this area.

Certain abilities use them, and summons use them too.

Basically anything they don't want you to be able to spam.

A lot of people complain about summons in XIII, because they're not super powerful.

They're pretty situational. The best things they offer are the fact that they allow you to be auto-raised one time while they're active, they automatically revive any dead party members when they leave, they can allow you to really pump up the stagger bar, and they can stop the Doom counter on your party leader while they're active.

Difference between Commandos and Ravagers is that Commandos do more damage but Ravagers build up the stagger bar quicker. So you generally want to start off as ravagers then switch to Commandos to do the damage once they're staggered.

(I might've remembered this wrong, so wait for someone to actually confirm/deny that before you follow that advice)

This is true, but you left out that Commandos also stabilize the stagger bar by making it decrease at a slower speed.

the way I see it, its basically a standard turnbased RPG stat leveling up system, only you decide when you gain the stat bonuses

isn't that how they do in some MMORPGs?

I haven't played FFX very religiously, infact, I rushed through the game within two weeks because I was borrowing it from someone

but anyways, the sphere grid gives off an illusion of choice, but if you look at the stat bonuses and abilities, those bonuses actually belong with the character. for instance, Auron has a bunch of HP and strength bonuses on his part. Yuna doesn't need it. you CAN go and get it, but why would you? you need to use your points for her healing spells and ****.
the same goes for everyone else. you're better off learning their class abilities than learning OTHER character's class abilities

Youre still following a predetermined path left by the developers so I'm not sure why people complain about this when its more clean and obvious like in FFXIII

One thing about the Crystarium (Which the game might tell you, but I forget) - it locks out most of it, then every other boss battle or so it opens up more for you to fill in. So you can't get too overpowered, if that's what you're worried about (although you still CAN get overpowered, no question).

Yeah, the Crystarium is broken into sections and are unlocked by beating bosses. It would take grinding in some cases to max it out early, but yeah.

Ah, right. The ol' two ravagers and a commando set-up.

Yeah, Com/Rav/Rav is pretty much the best offensive paradigm. Rav x3 may stagger faster, but the stagger effect will be much shorter than if you use Com/Rav/Rav.

yea, each battle is it's own experience is what I think they were going for

well anyways, we progressed and found Serah! they tried digging her out but Lightning insists that they leave her behind. She clocks Snow a couple of times before the Psicom show up

now uh, yea, I hit a brick wall here, this guy killed me two times already. it sucks that only lightning has to die to get a game over. that sucks

anyways, I started looking at the Crystarium. Each CLASS has its own grid thingy. now my question is, the stat boosts you get for progressing in the grids, do they only apply when they're in that class, or does it provide an OVERALL boost regardless of class?

It's been a while since i played, but you pretty much shift after every other attack sequence. If you shift at the right time your characters ATB will be full after the shift, so they can attack right away.

Hunting turtles isn't that bad. You get so accustomed to your attack plan it becomes second nature. The drops will always still be bad, and running back and fourth between them is annoying.

Though, perhaps I was a bit lucky, my platinum time was just under 93 hours, which from what I've seen is considerably faster than most.

I actually really love FF13's battle system. It's tactical and fast paced.

And the whole 'auto-battle ew' thing goes away when you realize you really ARE controlling all of your team anyway, just instead of 'scroll down, pick fire', 'scroll down, pick heal', 'hit attack' you do it all with one button press to switch paradigms.

I'm assuming once you leave an area and come back to it, it'll respawn the enmies

however the beginning levels are one stretch long pieces of land, its not really possible to "leave" an area since it really is just one place

so I'm guessing its impossible to grind in the beginning chapters
