It's more telling of how awful Obama is now and how his popularity is dead.

You mean because he lost by 1% to a GENERIC. Generics always, always poll better

From: User728 | #045
Problem with that link is that it only tells us about partisan lines...doesn't tell us about the individual candidates themselves. Just because a state is usually more liberal, doesn't mean the specific candidate (crappy 2012 Obama) will take the state.

Your logic absolutely applies to the conservatives. It DOESN'T apply to Obama, because he's listed as the candidate in that link (against generic conservative)

Also, Obama just needs to lose 1 big state, such as Florida, and then it's pretty much over for him.

This is true for Conservatives as well.

Clinton is reponsible for the housing market crash. He made it easy for everyone to get mortgages then they all went and defaulted on them.

Alright after looking into it briefly, but only briefly, this looks like a fair stance on the surface. I was more looking for specifics than the economics theorycraft that User728 is serving here.

But did W actually attempt to do anything to help clean this up? I don't recall anything. Hindsight is 20/20 and you could argue it was W being negligent that caused the issue to go awry as much as anything. You could also possibly blame it on banks being too eager to give out loans back then. There are a lot of factors and it's hard to be sure that Clinton is mostly to blame there without more evidence that I don't entirely care to look into at the moment-- but if you've got it offhand I'd be interested.

In any case, it's not as cut and dry as an economic plan that consists of tax cuts and ridiculous increased military spending not working out, for instance.

Yours didn't talk about individual candidates either. It was also Generic Republican vs Obama.

And as has been said this is an awful election for those polls since "Generic Republican" also beats any of the Republican candidates.

Since someone can't just change the economy over night, you have to assume the guy who was making the budgets before him had to have screwed up somewhere and left a huge mess for the new unfortunate guy.

So you don't actually know anything about what you're talking about, you're just making assumptions?

Just so we're clear on that, right?

Except for the fact that it shoots down your thesis entirely.

Obama has this locked down. Romney ain't gonna inspire anyone to get out there and vote. It's Obama vs. Not Obama, and that doesn't work as well for the other guys as actually getting people inspired about their own candidate. Obama is the much more charismatic, likable candidate, the economy is starting to improve (unemployment down to 8.5 after being at 9.1-9.2), and Bin Laden is dead. Good luck to Romney, he's gonna need it.

Considering he is cleaning up Clinton's mess (a Democrat), yes, a Republican will get elected. Unless you think someone can just waltz into office and change the entire nation's economy instantly by snapping his fingers. And considering Obama has failed horribly at trying to fix Clinton's mess, he's on his way out. His only attempt so far was a failed stimulus package where he spent millions to research steroids in baseball and horseracing...that sure will stimulate the economy.

LOL if you think clinton did anything as a president. By his second term, the republican controlled congress could do anything they wanted because of his scandal.

And the real mess began with nixon. When he got pardoned, our country lost any sense of discipline. Combined that with the fact that he opened trade with china and didnt impose any regulations....ya thats when the united states really went down the ****er.

Anyone blaming clinton, or bush, or obama has no grasp of politics. It started with nixon and then we saw the national debt skyrocket with reagans shenangans.

If you blame clinton for anything, its repealing Glass–Steagall Act and signing the telecommunications bill which ruined mass media. Both of those things were clinton's fault, but they were the republican controlled congress's fault just as much.

As someone who enjoys replying to trolls as much as trolls enjoy trolling, IMO you have a lot of work to do. Although to be fair, I don't remember you before this topic so maybe your past attempts were better. Where's the constant spin? Where's the fight against the masses? Where's the edge-of-insanity-but-still-logical counterargument to people throwing logic back at you? I saw one attempt at belittling the opposition in an attempt to enrage them into destroying their own arguments, but I need more.

Not sure why I expected to actually learn anything here, but it was an interesting approach that showed promise for a bit. I'd like if these topics went more into whys and facts that are elaborated instead of just stating opinions with some arbitrary facts that require the other person to connect the dots. They'd be more interesting to read and more educational. I like knowing the thought process behind political (well, any) opinions, that's where I think the merit and whether someone is really worth listening to really comes in.

Then again I guess it's just a troll topic so I should know better. But... EndOfDiscOne gave me hope!

The economy is where it is because Dubbya Bush spent the surplus budget from Clinton's administration like a little girl at a shopping mall. Wars typically boost an economy, but Bush managed to find a way to have a war and put the entire country in serious debt. Obama deserves another four years to continue to try to get us out of this mess. Another Republican president would essentially ruin us.

To be fair, it was as much Rumsfeld's fault. He was the one with the brilliant idea that the war would be an easy enough win that he could get away with barely equipping the army and going in with no particular plan, thereby dragging it out about five years longer than it would have taken had someone competent been in charge

Obama deserves another four years to continue to try to get us out of this mess. Another Republican president would essentially ruin us.

obviously what bush did with that small surplus was absurd and pathetic, but on the largest scale it wasn't as significant as many think. We were still in a massive amount of debt due to reagan, people were still barely paying taxes, and we were losing historically important businesses (manufacturing).

Clinton trimming as much of the debt as he did was impressive and good, but he didn't ensure long term debt cutting because we weren't seeing any comebacks in important job sectors. Combine that with the fact that he didn't really start ending all these tax loopholes and ya...it was more of a blip on the radar and not a long term thing to go by.

It is ironic though that clinton was pretty much more fiscally conservative than any president post ww2 and yet republicans today say hes the reason for this mess.

The US mess of today started 35ish years ago. That was the root of the problem. People who blame clinton of the 90s or bush of the 00s are semi shortsighted and just want to think their generations were the most significant. Bush sucked, and Clinton was only slightly better (and Obama is a wimp), but the problem is/was nixon and reagan.

trolling is fun if you are good at it. The best trolls aren't ones who just say something stupid and act like they are e-thugs. The best trolls are ones who post semi rationally and get responses out of people because the posts are somewhat thought out. But you did get a fair amount of responses so props to you

But honestly, trolling at a whole becomes stupid after youve been on the internet as long as most of us. Back when this board was pretty fresh (like 2003/2004) i could see trolling kinda fun. But now? Meh this board is pretty much so set in stone with the names and posts that most trolling attempts seem unoriginal and boring. The same goes for most message boards due to the concept of the message board becoming obsolete with facebook/twitter statuses and wikis.

This is probably closest to the truth. The good thing about supporting Gary Johnson is I can always claim that America sucks because we didn't elect Gary Johnson, though if we actually do elect him, it'll probably still suck.
