As of Christmas Eve, the Nintendo 3DS has sold over 14.2 million units, including 1.7 million units the week ending with December 24. This includes 4.7 million in the United States, 3.7 million in Europe, 4.1 million in Japan and another million or so sold in places like Canada and Australia.
At this time, there are four games on the 3DS that have sold two million or more units. Of these two games are Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 which are already above 4 million sold. The two other games are Nintendogs cats and Ocarina of Time 3D. In total, over 27 million 3DS games have been sold, in addition to downloadable titles.
Whats crazy is Super Mario Land 3D which came out in November has already outsold any game in the Jak and Daxter Series, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D has outsold the Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (GBA) and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (GC) combined. Lastly Mario Kart 7 has sold four million copies in only 24 days. It has sold more than Forza 2 and Motorstorm. It is very likely to pass Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in another week, entering the top 20 or so best selling racers of all time.
No 3rd party game has reached a million units so far. However, Monster Hunter 3G, a game that has been out for less than a month, and only in Japan, comes close, with about 880,000 sold.
What a weird comparison, Jak & Daxter. I guess it doesn't look as nice comparing it to 2D Mario! Motorstorm is also pretty strange -- that's not a top tier racing game or series. GT5P is notable, though, but no surprise.

zelda vs. zelda makes sense. and the numbers for this mario will rival 2d mario. still, their goal was 16 mil by march to keep it above pace of the DS. they'll match that easy.

I have 5 games, but two were got at a severe discount (Thanks Best Buy, for that awesome $5 sale on Pilotwings and Steel Diver), and the other three are basically exactly what you'd expect.
I got Rayman 3D when I got my 3DS, cause there was no games back then, but this was enjoyable 10 years ago, and I thought I'd play it again. Then I have Super Mario Land 3D and Mario Kart 7.

Easiest bracket ever, yet we all failed! Well except SuperNiceDog, of course!
Dem numbers. Slightly surprised SSFIV3D hasn't sold a million though, but it looks like other third party games will relatively soon.
ZFS posted... 3DS still needs a few more games before its a good purchase, but it'll get those within the next few months, probably. What's the next big 3DS game?
I'm interested in trying out OoT3DS and Mario 3D.
Resident Evil Revelations comes out this month.

yeah, tales of the abyss got delayed in the US at the last minute. made for fun times with best buy's buy 2 get 1 free sale because it was 'released' in their system, just on backorder.
>___>
goes RE -> Tales fo the Abyss (/Tekken if you care - i don't) -> Kid Icarus. and that's just what we know. between now and march to April who knows what else they feel like throwing in, ain't much reason they can't bring over Monster Hunter by then. i'm pretty set with my Tales order and the games that came out November/December (Cave Story/Ace Combat/Mario/Mario Kart) for now, so i'm good.

wouldn't surprise me actually - OoT was in those bundles, which i assume vgchartz is.... somehow trying to calculate. ditto for mario 3d and nintendogs.
now if it's not talking about the bundled ones, then i've got nothin'. and the numbers are actually higher.

From: SubDeity | #025 Doesn't VG Chartz, like, make up their numbers?
Estimates them based on a number of difficult to calculate factors (the biggest being Wal-Mart refusing to play nice and tell anyone, even the NPD, how many games they've sold).
So it's really the best you can hope for without paying the NPD for their data.

"Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 for the Nintendo 3DS system not only became the fastest-selling titles in the history of their respective franchises when they launched, but they are now also the first Nintendo 3DS titles to sell 1 million units each in the United States. On the console side, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which also broke launch records, became the 45th Wii title to sell more than 1 million units in the United States."
"4.5 million units of Wii, more than 4 million Nintendo 3DS systems, and more than 3.4 million units of the Nintendo DS family of systems. This brings the installed base for Wii and Nintendo DS to 39 million and more than 51 million, respectively."

tl;dr highlights: -Wii U is for people with more than 60k disposable income -Reggie talks down about another company's stock -Reggie talks down about doing the same thing over and over -Reggie brags about 3DS sales without mentioning the whole "hemorrhaging money" thing
I guess the interviewer herself is pretty horrible too but let's not lose focus here

Donny: Are they gonna hurt us, Walter? Walter: No, Donny. These men are cowards.
As an example, if Im the head of a household of a family of four, and my disposable income is $50,000 to $60,000, Im going to continue to look at the Wii because of the software, and its a great entertainment device. For consumers who want to have the latest gadgets and have a higher disposable income, thats for the Wii U.
Wii U for the 1%?

To be fair, he did say families. There's few American families that makes less than $50K a year.
