JaKyL25 12/26/11 9:14:00 AM #406:	CONTROVERSY TIME! WWE's Top 25 Matches of 2011 is up on WWE.com Join me as I browse through them match by match and offer my live thoughts on the selections. 25.) Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio, Wrestlemania XXVII Seems about right. Arguably even the best match that night! 24.) Yoshi Tatsu vs. Tyson Kidd, NXT This is the Dismembered Action Figure Leg On A Pole Match. Glad to see this feud getting some recognition with its blowoff making the list here. One of the 5 best WWE feuds of the year! There's one other NXT match I hope shows up later, but I doubt it will. 23.) Edge vs. Kane, SmackDown Oh wow, I can't believe someone else remembered this! I've always thought that this Last Man Standing match was the best match from that opening week of the year, even better than Miz vs. Morrison FCA (which will probably rank higher but oh well). These two vets did great work in this one, creating a lot of drama with minimal risk even with a normally over-the-top stipulation. 22.) CM Punk vs. The Miz vs. Alberto Del Rio, TLC The awesome triple threat TLC match scores a place on the list. No complaints yet. 21.) Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes, SmackDown The first of what I hope is many Orton matches on this list. This match saw the end of the Grotesque Cody Rhodes character, and he went out with a classic. I remember this match tearing the house down that night, and by the end, Cody may have lost, but he had also arrived. 20.) The Miz vs. John Morrison, Raw This is that Falls Count Anywhere match from the first show of the year I mentioned earlier. Great stuff. 19.) SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match, Elimination Chamber WHOA, this one is a little underrated. I expected Top Ten! The Raw one better not be higher! Edge vs. Rey to close this bad boy out absolutely stole the show. 18.) Randy Orton vs. CM Punk, Extreme Rules I'm glad that this one got recognized over their WM match. The second LMS match on the list! Orton grew so much as a face in this feud, and I bet a few matches higher up on this list will show the fruits of that labor. 17.) Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio, Raw A somewhat forgotten match, amidst all the Punk/Cena/ADR/Trips/Nash stuff, these two went out and put on their usual clinic, and sent Rey packing for the rest of the year. 16.) Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler, Raw A fantastic meaningless (though dramatic!) free TV match. I'd swap this and Orton/Rhodes, but no complaints for getting it on the list. 15.) Mark Henry vs. Daniel Bryan, SmackDown The cage match. Such a refreshing alternative to the usual WWE template match. Kudos to both guys for the best Big Man vs. Little Man match in ages, and possibly the best finishing move all year. 14.) Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett, TLC I feel that this is the first true misstep on this list. A good match, but not Top 25 material. Sorry guys. 13.) CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio, Capitol Punishment Top Ten material IMO. I'm eager to see what bumped it! The best match from a technical standpoint in WWE in 2011 IMO. 12.) SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Money in the Bank A great choice, and IMO the better of the two MitB matches that night. I bet the other one shows up higher though. 9.) Edge vs. Dolph Ziggler, Royal Rumble A little overrated but definitely Top Twenty material. Just like how Cody arrived in his loss to Orton, this is where Ziggler proved he belonged as a main-eventer. 8.) The Rock/John Cena vs. The Awesome Truth, Survivor Series Umm, no. Top 50 maybe, just for the spectacle, but #8? Please. 7.) Royal Rumble match, Royal Rumble A bit overrated, but definitely belongs on the list. Rumbles are (almost) always must-see! 6.) Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio, Extreme Rules Extreme Rules with its 3rd showing on the list! Kind of an underrated PPV. This one definitely belongs here. 5.) John Cena vs. Rey Mysterio, Raw Rey's second match that night, and his best all year. A dream match sort of encounter you thought you'd never see, and they delivered. Best Raw match of the year IMO. 4.) Raw Elimination Chamber Match, Elimination Chamber Highly disagree with this ranking. If you swapped the Chamber matches on the list I think we'd be much more in line with reality. Definitely belongs on the list though. 3.) Randy Orton vs. Christian, Over the Limit Definitely belongs in the Top Five, but I am utterly shocked that no other match from this feud made it. The Summerslam match was better IMO, and the SmackDown match to start the feud belonged as well. No qualms about this placement, but wow, only one? 2.) CM Punk vs. John Cena, Money in the Bank Uh oh, I was hoping this wasn't #2, because now we know what #1 is... 1.) The Undertaker vs. Triple H, Wrestlemania XXVII I think we've all had about enough of the debate about this match, but I think even its staunchest supporters would agree that it has no place topping Cena/Punk. Interesting that WM only places on the list twice, at #1 and #25. Even WWE knows it was a sub-par WM! I bet they shoehorned Cody vs. Rey on here just to get WM on the list a second time. So that's their opinion. I don't disagree TOO much with the overall contents, though obviously I'd shake things around a lot. I would definitely drop Orton vs. Barrett and Rock/Cena vs. Awesome Truth from the list and replace them with two other Orton vs. Christian matches, but other than those two selections I can't say anything they ranked didn't belong.
