I'm not sure why most people seem to consider Twisted to be the best, that's probably my least favorite and I've played the whole series...

D.I.Y. is by far the best. Smooth Moves takes second place.

Touched! > Smooth Moves > Mega Micro Games > Twisted

I've played D.I.Y. but I sucked too much at it to include it in the ranking (I'm bad at both logic and drawing so I couldn't make decent games). I could understand why someone loves it the most, though

I'm not really sure how to rank WarioWare games. They are all, more or less, kind of equal in quality. Touched, I think, was a bit too simple for me. The final boss, in particular, was really lacking compared to Wario's Adventure and the dancing game in Twisted. I don't like Smooth Moves as much, due to some of the changes. Like when you play in the gallery or something, you can only play a microgame 3 times, once in each difficulty and that's it.

Twisted > DIY > Mega Party Games > Mega Microgames > Touched > Smooth Moves

Twisted is so easily the best WarioWare. The gimmick is just so much more satisfying than any of the others - Smooth Moves and Touched both feel oddly underutilized to me while Twisted milks every possible concept out of its gyroscopic gimmick as it can, and controlling it is just a blast.

DIY is pretty close though - it's like some kind of awesome game development toybox. It's kind of like Mario Paint except you can create games with it. Although there are a couple of things I would add (would it kill them to add variables to the game instead of having to do them in a completely roundabout way?), it's more or less handled pretty much perfectly. It's a ton of fun to dick around in, and it's fun to open up the pre-loaded microgames and see how they were coded too. It's different from the other WarioWares since it's not so much about playing it as it is about creating stuff with it, but it's still awesome.

The rest of the WarioWares are fun but not outstanding like Twisted and DIY are in my opinion.

Also I forgot about the stupid thing where you can't play microgames a bunch of times in a row in Smooth Moves, so I put it at the bottom. Why would you remove features?

Touched is the worst Wario Ware and the only one that's a bad game.

The touchscreen is just too freeform for a game like Wario Ware where it gives you 5 seconds to follow one-word instructions. With Mega Micro Games and Twisted your input options were limited enough that you could easily figure out how to do what it wanted you to. But with a touchscreen you can just do anything, how am I supposed to figure out that "Swim!" means draw circles over the swimmer's shoulders with enough time left to finish? Plus there's the fact that, as an early DS game, the touchscreen input was extremely unrefined so even if you were trying to do the right thing a lot of times it wouldn't recognize it as having been done correctly (the kanji-racing game leaps to mind immediately).

They smartened up with Smooth Moves. The different Wii Remote positions they tell you to use really help make things more intuitive.

I kind of agree with this, but Smooth Moves' faults are worse in my opinion, namely that Wii controls just tend to be sort of finicky and it makes playing the game more annoying. This isn't really their fault, they did what they could with what they have, but I just don't enjoy it as much. The fact that there's always a pause to let you switch forms also hurts, because while necessary, it slows the game down and I want WarioWare to be as absurdly fast and madcap as possible.

I think this is why Twisted works so well - it's fast paced, but unlike Touched, you're not going to run into situations where you don't know what to do as often because pretty much all you can do is spin it and press A sometimes. It's a lot more interesting than the original WarioWare's basic control setup without sacrificing any of the intuition that comes with it.

Twisted > Mega Microgame$ > Touched > Smooth Moves >>>>>>> DIY > Mega Party Game$

Twisted has a ridiculous number of side games and the most balanced difficulty of the main stages.

Touched is behind Mega Microgame$ due to losing a little bit of the simplistic and rough graphical feel and difficulty balance--it features several microgames that are still nearly impossible to fail at max speed and others that are almost literally impossible to win.

Smooth Moves has a ridiculously long pause between microgames since they made the bizarre decision to not just show which position to use during the normal microgame break animations, and it doesn't quite have perfect responsiveness. Still good though.

DIY had an absolutely abysmal set of microgames and such extreme limitations on the programming that it pretty much destroyed what the game could have been.
--Max 16 objects to interact with even if you don't come anywhere near the size limit for the microgame
--The only variables available are boolean, and you only get them in the form of one associated with each object.
--Arbitrary maximum number of conditionals/instruction blocks per object even though these are insignificant in terms of memory and storage needed.
--Most important, the only commands accepted are "tap here" and "tap anywhere"--no dragging, drawing, or anything like that!

And then if you make a microgame, which could take several hours if you work on the graphics, you have to exchange friend codes for anyone else to see it; they then play it for 5 seconds and have seen all it has to offer as there's no point in playing player content over and over again for high scores since it can't be standardized or balanced.

Mega Party Game$ just had awkward control and while the party modes were great if you had people to play with, the game's lifespan was destined to be short-lived. Seems like it was designed for a weekend rental or something.

Yeah I agree with a lot of this, although a lot of these things, like variables, can be fudged. The thing is though, I treat it less as a real game development tool and more of a weird game development-themed toy box, designed to be simple enough that anyone can figure it out in a couple of hours. To me, trying to figure out how to make a cool game in it is more of a puzzle than it is a real creative endeavor, and I'm cool with that. It's not meant to be too serious. That said, variables should just be a thing and I shouldn't have to fake them.
