DIY had an absolutely abysmal set of microgames and such extreme limitations on the programming that it pretty much destroyed what the game could have been.
--Max 16 objects to interact with even if you don't come anywhere near the size limit for the microgame
--The only variables available are boolean, and you only get them in the form of one associated with each object.
--Arbitrary maximum number of conditionals/instruction blocks per object even though these are insignificant in terms of memory and storage needed.
--Most important, the only commands accepted are "tap here" and "tap anywhere"--no dragging, drawing, or anything like that!

Yeah I agree with a lot of this, although a lot of these things, like variables, can be fudged. The thing is though, I treat it less as a real game development tool and more of a weird game development-themed toy box, designed to be simple enough that anyone can figure it out in a couple of hours. To me, trying to figure out how to make a cool game in it is more of a puzzle than it is a real creative endeavor, and I'm cool with that. It's not meant to be too serious. That said, variables should just be a thing and I shouldn't have to fake them.
