Just curious to see what people think is better if you like both.

My vote goes to Ghibli, or more specifically to everything Miyazaki has ever done in his career, especially his work on Lupin III, Castle of Cagliostro especially especially.

What about a collaboration between the two?

How would that work!?

I'll say Pixar but only because I've never watched a Studio Ghibli movie (Please suggest some !) so it's not really valid.

Although there are a few that are nice by another guy, by and large people are just talking about movies by Hayao Miyazaki. So I'll just recommend my favorite anime movies that he's directed:

Castle of Cagliostro, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke

Castle of Cagliostro SO GOOD.
One of my favorite series put in the hands of one of my favorite directors, the result was bound to be godly!

I have not, been meaning to since it's on Netflix Instant. To be fair I literally copy/pasta'd the "Known For" list from Miyazaki's Wikipedia page.

Hell yeah! Plus he directed over half the episodes of the original Lupin III green jacket series too.

Not really a decision I want to make.

Anyone who bashes either is objectively wrong.

The only thing that would even remotely act as a deciding factor is that Ghibli doesn't have a "Cars" equivalent, if you know what I mean.

They are the only 2 studios that I've seen every single piece of work from.

Hmm... Ghibli, though it is close.

Pixar is more consistent (Finding Nemo > Ponyo imo), but Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa and maybe Porco Rosso (had it been better resolved) pretty well destroy anything by Pixar.

Are we talking Ghibli or Miyazaki here? Miyazaki I totally agree, but Ghibli overall has a couple of low rated films. Admittedly I haven't seen them, but Tales from Earthsea and My Neighbors the Yamadas seem low rated overall.

Ghibli is more varied and more ambitious, although Pixar's excellent at what it does. Pixar's never done anything that's left me as amazed as after any of the following: Grave of the Fireflies, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart, Porco Rosso, Nausicaa.

Hmm... tough choice. There's only 1 Pixar movie I don't like, while there's more I don't like from Studio Ghibli. On the other hand, Ghibli's best > Pixar's. If it was just Miyazaki's works, then that easily.

Guys

Pixar employees are made to watch Ghibli movies as research.

They're such fanboys that Totoro is in Toy Story 3.

Should make the answer as to which company is the best obvious.

Ghibli is too mainstream for the majority of weaboos. Most people who seem to like the movies made by that studio aren't the hardcore anime fans.

Anyway, I go with Pixar.

Yea I wouldn't say Ghibli is only liked by weaboos. They seem to like the unknown stuff, and lots of people that don't watch anime know about Ghibli films.

I would have to go with Pixar as i really only like a handful of stuff from Ghibli.

To say hardcore anime fans aren't into Miyazaki flicks is pretty crazy. Like everything, it was popular on fansubs in the hardcore community, shown at anime cons etc before it was mainstream, but it's cool that it's appreciated in the mainstream too.

Not that a serious reply is needed to any post pondering about "weaboos".

I don't mean they don't watch it too, its just not as popular among them. Like looking on MAL, Arrietty has less people who have watched it then some generic fanservice anime in the last year like Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi and Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai. Arrietty is a Ghibli movie that has only been fansubbed up to this point, so I think it shows that the more hardcore anime fans really aren't as into those types of movies.
