I've seen a lot of "worst fanbase in gaming" topics, but I get the feeling that many of the posters in the topic are merely pointing the finger at fans of games they don't like. So, what game-related fanbase makes you most ashamed to be a part of it?
For me, it's the Zelda fanbase. From creepy fan art and fan fiction (which, to be fair, plague most fanbases), to "waaaah! Celda!" to "8.8?!?!" to gushing about a 2011 release having a fully orchestrated soundtrack, these people are the reason I'm embarrassed to admit that I enjoy Zelda games.
All of them that have been released in the past half-decade, I'd say. Mostly because that means most of the vocal fans are kids or teenagers.
Special mention has to go to Portal though, since the disparity between how I feel about the series and how I feel about the fanbase is the largest there.

Probably FPS's in general. We get a lot of flack (and for good reason). However, there are some FPS's out there that are damn good games, and I see way too many people say "oh hey, this is the exact same game as every FPS that's ever come out." Blech.
Sonic, and I can't really think of a fan base that comes close. It's at the point where I'm not sure you can even call them fans, more like Sonic canon critics or something, I have no clue.
can't generalize a fanbase, but I run into more awful people in RTS games than anywhere else. Starcraft II is better about this than WC3 but they both got some unlikable people.

This exactly.

Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a ***** in space.
I...don't know...is there a difference between community and fanbase? I know it sounds like a stupid question and of course they are the same but...I..dunno
I mean,Dota/HoN community is so bad that I can't believe im part of it And yet...the Sonic "fanbase" are full of furry and I won't be surprised if the reason furry exist is because of Sonic
VincentLauw posted... From: EndOfDiscOne | #024 The Wire From: Pianist | #016 breaking bad I have no idea what you guys are talking about, give examples.
Aside from 'I don't like the series and other people do it's so annoying'
The topic is about things we like where the fanbases suck. The Wire has a lot of elitist/pretentious fans and Breaking Bad does too to a lesser extent.
@janembaman: What about Inviso? Do you dislike her too? She's a furry.
On-topic: Not a series, but a character. Renamon. I think she's badass, but their fanboys simply HAVE to like her for the wrong reasons(Read: Sexually). Renamon is a Child level Digimon, for Yggdrasil's sake!

Thanks for reminding me of when I went to an anime convention over the summer, I walked out of a panel only to be greeted by hallway full of overweight cross-dressers since they were all in Touhou cosplay.
So I'll go with that.

No need for words, Just cast Luminaire and be done with it.
Touhou and Sonic tend to have the most 'insane' fanbases.
Team Fortress 2, from my experience, is just an awful time of in-jokes and stroking each others' egos. However, that fanbase comes up with legitimately good ideas some of the time. It doesn't outweigh the bad by a mile, but something good comes out of it occasionally, which is more than I can say for a lot.
As part of the Persona fanbase, I can say we're annoying as all Hell. There's something about that experience that makes us want to share it with others. Over and over again. Until the point where we drive people away in frustration by telling them how good the game is and how underappreciated it is and how it's the best RPG of this generation. All of which are completely true and if you haven't played Persona 4 you totally should.
DotA and Fighting Games tend to have very elitist communities. Smash Bros. is probably the worst of these since you can't say 'I like Melee' or 'I like Brawl' without having a temper tantrum from the other side.
So... I'll say Kingdom Hearts. I'm sorry, but I've had the displeasure of arguing with people who think Kingdom Hearts' plot is a tour de force of storytelling. It's like Metal Gear's fanbase, only unlike Metal Gear, most of it takes itself completely seriously. Not to mention I've had this conversation more than once:
"Oh my favorite video game is Kingdom Hearts" "Oh really? Well what stage did you like most in it? I have trouble liking the battle system so it'd be interesting if you could tell me..." "Oh... well I haven't actually PLAYED it, it's just my favorite."

How many points did Black Turtle win the guru by? Wow that's a lot, a lot!
Oh, games only? That rules out homestuck and wrasslin', I guess. I WOULD say Touhou, but a lot of the appeal is in the fan-created stuff, so there's good in with the bad. Guess I'll go with Sonic.

Portal. DotA and TF2 can have pretty obnoxious online communities (TF2 moreso on the Steam forums than in-game), but that rarely translates into obnoxiousness IRL. But the magnitude of random people I heard randomly say "The cake is a lie!1" in high school and believe they were being funny was just unbearable.

No, I didn't. It was about the worst fanbases of games/series that I like. (Granted, I hate Suckcraft, but hey, I forgot).
I like MGS, hate the Snake ****ing fans. I like Community, but the fans of it as a whole overrate it to high heaven.
