Meals around 15 bucks or so here.

I'm asking because today one of my friend came at me and was like '' hey, we should go dine to this place tonight, it's really nice and cheap too ! ''

So I went, saw that everything was 30 bucks or so on the menu, told my friend to enjoy is dinner and left, no way in hell am I gonna pay 30 bucks for a single meal when I can't even get a full-time job with minimum wage.

He's gonna be mad at me probably but like I care, I hate being lied to.

I'd like to be able to afford an entree for less than 15 if I'm being told its "nice and cheap"

30 is ridiculous though.

I guess it depends on cost of living wherever you're at though?

$10 or under is cheap. $15 is medium, anything above that is more than I want to spend unless it's a special occasion.

your friend should be mad at you though, you acted like a bad friend. if money was a concern you could've asked beforehand what he meant by cheap. leaving as soon as you see the prices is inappropriate and passive aggressive.

Well for just an entree itself I would expect to pay around 10.

Than a couple bucks for a soft drink (more for any other kind of drink)

Brings you to around 15 for your share I guess.

But yeah, all you have to do is say "man, you said this would be cheap, I can't afford this". Then you resolve it from there.

Walking out is kinda lame.

That,s the thing, whenever I went to restaurants that were really expensive the food was always underwhelming.

Maybe it's ebcause I set my expectations way too high when I pay alot, but still.

there's plenty sub 10 that's not fast food. sure half of them are also bars, but some are definitely more restaurant than bar. have seen as low as $4 for some food and $6-7 for pretty much a meal there. they're rare, but they exist. of course you're more likely to end up getting it closer to 10 more often than not, but 15 is definitely higher than it ought to be for cheap eats.

they sure as hell aren't in nyc there. then again no clue what you end up eating. if you go for like 4 courses then... yeah it'll be pricey. but who the hell does that if they're out on their own or with a friend and looking to eat cheap >_>;

hell, putting it to you this way.
the best burger i've found ended up being from a place that was initially a restaurant then doubled as a bar as well. you had really high quality food but bar-like prices. including what was a special of buy a beer get a burger for $6.

and mind you, we're talking 10oz burgers here, choice to the kind of burger you're after, fries as well.

and no. that's entirely sit down. your area's prices just suck or you haven't gone looking around.

And even in SoCal, you can spend under $15 at tons of diners and restaurants. It just depends on what you're getting. A nice steak will be over $15 anywhere. A burger and fries will be under $15 unless you're at a place where you shouldn't be ordering a burger and fries.

I've realized that Vegas buffets are pretty damn impressive when it comes to value, though. They'll take a loss on food to keep people happy and in the casino. There are some off-strip casinos where you can sneak in for the $5 breakfast buffet price and time it so that they have the lunch items out. Prime rib and gelato for $5. Since $15 seems to be the limit price here, there's one popular buffet where lunch is $15, and they feature an incredible selection and beer on tap.

yeah, if you order the expensive stuff then of course you're gonna be assed out badly there. though have bought filet migon for $12-$13 before. hell, that was 2 weeks ago.

check out asian run joints more often. japanese, thai, and vietnamese especially. and by asian run that will include stuff like western foods, such as filet migon. >_>

...and if that $15 for lunch includes 3 or more drinks that is the best. if there's no limit i need this location because if/when i ever go to vegas i will plan my life around that spot.

Depends on the type of restaurant too. Like seafood will obviously cost more than pastas. I used to live in NY so I've been to a lot of places. It was not uncommon to spend over 40 for a single meal. At times very specific dishes (like Fugu) would cost like 60+. Some others vary at extreme rates like a Steak taretare can be gotten for like 12ish at some places, but can also easily fetch prices up to 35+.

Other things like Sushi is always expensive, but even that varies based on the quality. Most Sushi you get at basic Japanese sushi bars (in america) or Chinese places are just decent. It's not uncommon for places to charge 2 bucks + a bite (a bite is a single piece of the roll), and I've heard of 5 buck a bite places.

I'd actually consider 20 to be the average based on say something like national pricing or whatever. But in an area like NYC something like 30 or so to be closer to the average.

there's quite a few surprisingly cheap places that do sushi. sushi restaurants can be pretty damn great and not too pricey if you look for 'em.

if you don't then yeah you'll be charged a good 3x as much. and the quality won't differ between some of 'em. others it'll be incredibly drastic to t he point where you really can't go back to eating there again.

What the hell, where do you people live that food is so expensive? If I'm paying more than 20 bucks before drink/tip, I'm probably considering the restaurant to be pretty upscale. I would never eat somewhere where I was going to be out 25 bucks or more, maybe with the exception of a nice seafood place, and even then I probably would not be out 25 bucks unless I had an appetizer and dessert.

When I say sushi is expensive I ment more in the realm of Price versus amount of food and such. Even a meal at like a school or walmart can cost like 10 bucks, and that's like the lowest grade they can sell or whatever.

entree for < $15 = average (chilis, tgif, applebees, etc)
entree for < $20 = nice (bj's, claim jumper, olive garden, cheesecake factore, black angus, etc)
entree for > $20 fancy (nice places)
