My analysis topic purged like a week ago and I never addressed that so I will right now - the pool of potential winners has felt kind of obvious to me since my last update (episode 3), and by now it still hasn't really changed. It's been narrowed down to a small three and even then I only see two of those three standing a great chance.

Nonetheless I'm gonna be a lazy ass and not continue with it unless something crazy happens, like a bunch of people riot in the streets or something because of this decision.

Yeah I still do.

Last season Probst was all wild about RI because not only did a male win, but it was Boston Rob. I think we can kind of rule out Coach or Ozzy winning (well, Ozzy was already ruled out anyway), because of Probst's more quiet attitude. I'd take that a step further and say his attitude means a female wins, because he's never happy about female winner seasons.

Of course, that still leaves Sophie, Dawn, and Mikayla as other potential winners using that logic. I just think Edna has a better shot than them at the moment.

What kind of person do you think I am? This season kicks ass, of course I'm still watching it.

I still hate Cochran (duh) but it's not like I'm not entirely used to characters I dislike getting overly positive edits. That happens literally every single season.

Stacey will be missed. She was such a quote machine goddess.

Yeah this episode was so much better than the past couple. Probably because of real strategy happening and not just 60 minutes of Brandon crying on screen.

Plus them messing with Ozzy is always fun.

Heh, she got injured in her Around the World For Free recently. I don't know if it's aired or not, but I read an article that she messed up her arm, and had to have a big steel plate put in, with the screws through the bones.

Yeah, I watched all of it. It looked really painful. She was on some dune buggies and went over a steep drop and smashed her wrist apart. She was hospitalized for a good while and all of the episodes where she was bedside were pretty grim. I felt bad for her. Totally wrecked her adventure. She had to have screws inserted into her arm to keep it together. :(

She was on The Talk recently and discussed this. She's gonna have a cast on her arm for a while. But at least she's doing better now!

i actually like jim a hell of a lot, which i feel is kind of an unpopular opinion. he's really smart, he's very interesting, and yeah, he's cocky as ****, but he's backed it up so far.

I like Jim, Cochran and Dawn, so its pretty convenient that they allied, at least temporarily. And Christine is pretty awesome too.

Personally i think with Ozzy throwing a big fit, hes probably going to get hit next, but of course he has the HII, so I wonder how that will work out.

Oh Ozzy, you knucklehead... That's what you get for playing the same game you always play. ~_~ I can't stay mad at someone that adorable of course, but I feel, as everyone surely feels by now that the idiot is not long for this competition lol. Call me crazy, but I don't really feel like Cochran's getting an entirely positive edit. I mean I can't think of anything directly negative about it so far, but it seems they're intentionally trying to paint him as some oddball. I don't really have a pick to win at this point, but I see Mikayla getting far.

I don't necessarily agree. I can definitely SEE the similarities between his edit and Boston Rob's, but you never once felt like Rob didn't have complete control over that entire game.

Coach has complete control over his tribe to be sure, but they do seem to be setting up the Brandon powderkeg as his eventual downfall post-merge IMO.

I feel like they're setting Cochran up for an eventual chance to be in control of the game (right now Jim's strategic move is the fulcrum that's catapulting him there), but having a downfall due to social game failure. The constant emphasis on his eccentricity is no accident.

Still picking Dawn to win! She's like a Holly/Natalie White mixture, and is IMO the only person other than Mikayla to never be profiled negatively by the editors.

I missed the end of the last topic, was there discussion about the actual strategic soundness of Jim's big move? IMO he's got the right idea, but still he struck too early, unless he really never thought he could have picked up both Keith AND Whitney like he did.

The thing is, Rob is the only time the winner never got any doubt. And not all winners are portrayed as 100% positive, either. It is really hard to tell what the editors are trying to say until they have said it, really.

Milayla was portrayed as slightly negative when she bashed Edna in episode 4.

One of Dawn/Jim/Cochran is winning, btw. Coach's edit isn't that great. It was amazing for episode 1, but has been going downhill ever since.

I just can't see Jim or Cochran winning. Jim comes across to me more as someone who is instrumental in the actual direction the game takes, and who might even make the finals, but who has burned too many bridges (and will likely continue to do so) to actually win.

In particular, he's the polar opposite to Coach's game this season. Assuming he and Coach both make the merge, I highly doubt Coach would vote for someone who has proven to be disloyal and a liar and schemer.

As far as Cochran goes, it seems like his struggle to find acceptance and be liked isn't presented as a story arc, but rather just as a character trait. If he somehow managed to get into a Final Three with Jim and Brandon he could definitely win and prove me wrong, but at this point I would be surprised if Dawn wasn't a finalist, and IMO she beats almost everyone (at least for now).

Don't underrate Keith though. He's not Grant!

I don't think the whole "bashing edna" thing is the biggest knock against mikayla. I think, is that she has no story of her own, she is just part of brandons story.

She's still highly visible though. Stuff like her picking up Rick's dropped piece of meat are there to remind us that she's out here playing for real.

Sometimes there's a point in the game where there is no real story for a future winner, so all the editors can do is continue to remind us of that person's existence and what kind of player they are meant to be seen as.

Take Sandra for example, at least in HvV (I still haven't seen her first season). We never forgot she was playing, but there were periods where she wasn't actively involved in the edit.
