The nomination phase is finally over, and now, it's time to reveal the bracket! The Best Sitcom Character Ever tournament is beginning, and it's going to be awesome. 128 characters, eight divisions, four matches a day... you're not gonna want to miss a single round!
Before I reveal the bracket, though, here's some interesting trivia about the nomination period.
-The overall most nominated character was easily George Costanza, who received a whopping 53 nominations total. The second most nominated character, GOB, only had 42. George was also the most nominated character on three of the four boards: Television Broadcast TV, Television Cable and Satellite, and Poll of the Day.
-On GameFAQs Contests, however, Al Bundy was the most nominated character.
-Several major shows won't be represented in this tournament, as their characters did poorly in the nomination phase. Examples include Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Family Guy, Flight of the Conchords, Weeds, Californication and Glee. I can't lie, the lack of Aqua Teen bums me out!
-The series with the most representation is Scrubs. Seven characters from the tournament made the bracket, and Dr. Perry Cox even got a 1-seed!
-The oldest character to make the bracket is Lucy Ricardo. She made her debut in 1951.
Anyway, the bracket will be posted below ASAP. Check it out, and let me know what you think!
Mer_Mer_Yes_Mer posted... Damn, those 1 seeds are some serious ****.
Yeah, it's pretty much a perfect lineup! I was pretty surprised to see Chandler get one, though. I didn't think Friends was all that popular on this site.
Yeah, the other Friends barely got any support. It's crazy how much more popular Chandler is!
Mer_Mer_Yes_Mer posted... Also, only 7 females in the entire bracket. Damn.
Holy cow, I didn't realize that. :O I nominated quite a few female characters though, IIRC - it's a shame Lana Kane, Gloria Pritchett and Edith Bunker barely got any support.
Pokewars posted... And Division #1's George Costanza and Division #2's Al Bundy should be the final, but I'm guessing those divisions clash early >_>
Yep. Since GOB and Barney Stinson were the #2 and #3 most nominated characters, respectively, I tried to set up a final where George would face off against one of them.
Barney, you will never be able to win this contest...
Challenge accepted! I, Barney Stinson will win this contest and remain awesome for my entire life! True story... I'm gonna be legend -wait for it- dary! Legendary!
This match is already really interesting. Feeny's looking capable of beating Hank, and I'm starting to worry that poor Artie won't get a single vote. >_>
Shaun1907 posted... The way this sets up it will hopefully come down to the manliest final possible with Al Bundy vs Ron Swanson...there really can't be a winner there.
This would be awesome... sadly, though, I don't think Ron's gonna do as well as he should. A lot of people seemed unfamiliar with Parks and Rec during Andy's match.
-Poor Roger! I would have voted for him, but I do slightly prefer Donaghy, and I thought Roger actually had a shot at winning. >____>
(3)Marshall Eriksen (How I Met Your Mother) - 37 (54.41%) > (14)Wilson (Home Improvement) - 31 (45.59%)
-Wilson did way better than I was expecting - he even won the Poll of the Day and Television: Cable and Satellite boards outright. Jerry could be in some trouble when he goes up against The Tool Man!
(7)Buster Bluth (Arrested Development) - 37 (68.52%) > (10)Fred G. Sanford (Sanford and Son) - 17 (31.48%)
-Arrested Development is my favorite show of all time. That having been said, I think the wrong character was eliminated today.

-Not quite a "Whoa, Bundy!" performance, but hey, there's a decent chance that Phoebe's the strongest 16-seed. It's probably Urkel, of course, but I could see him flopping.
(8)Hal (Malcolm in the Middle) - 68 (94.44%) > (9)Mark Corrigan (Peep Show) - 4 (5.56%)
-Mark may be a 9-seed, but he put up a 16-seed performance.
(5)Uncle Phil (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - 41 (56.16%) > (12)Montgomery Burns (The Simpsons) - 32 (43.84%)
-A really fun match between two of the best characters in the contest. I was hoping Mr. Burns would win, but Uncle Phil rules too!
-A better performance from Annie than I was expecting - she even managed to win the Poll of the Day board by a single vote! This bodes pretty well for Troy and Abed, I'd imagine.

I just tallied all the current votes, and I have to say: today's matches are ****ing awesome. Archie's killing Father Ted, but the other three matches are totally up in the air.
(2)Sheldon Cooper - 23 (54.76%) (15)Bill McNeal - 19 (45.24%)
It's really interesting to see how differently the boards vote. In Halpert/Barone, for instance, the Broadcast TV board is helping Jim big-time, while Board 8 is killing him.
-Frank did incredibly well on Board 8, but the other boards went with Jim. Since Frank was Everybody Loves Raymond's only representative in the contest, this result is a bummer!
(3)Archie Bunker (All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place) - 35 (81.40%) > (14)Father Ted Crilly (Father Ted) - 8 (18.60%)
-Not gonna lie: I pit these two together simply because it seemed like a really funny match-up. Archie never did like Catholics much, after all. :P
(7)Dick Solomon (3rd Rock From the Sun) - 29 (52.73%) > (10)Lucy Ricardo (I Love Lucy) - 26 (47.27%)
-Contrary to what the seedings say, this is definitely an upset in my eyes. Lucy was winning for most of the day, but Dick Solomon snagged most of the late votes.
(2)Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) - 27 (50.94%) > (15)Bill McNeal (NewsRadio) - 26 (49.06%)
-Victory by a single vote...! Needless to say, this is the closest match we've had so far. You've got to hand it to Sheldon, whether you like him or not: he had to go up against Phil Hartman fans and BBT haters, and he still survived.
As awesome as Dick Solomon is, Lucy Ricardo losing in round 1 is a travesty, and the fact that a BBT character beat Phil Hartman is a crime against humanity.

The good news for Phil Hartman fans: Zapp Brannigan is probably gonna be a huge deal in this thing.
Voters ripped out this contest's heart and shoved it down its throat. Then, they put the whole thing through a meat grinder. Then, they cooked it up, ate it with a spoon, and barfed it back as Sheldon Cooper.

(1)Charlie Kelly (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) - 47 (87.04%) > (16)Father Dougal McGuire (Father Ted) - 7 (12.96%)
-A very impressive blowout, but I'm surprised at how many people have abstained from the Always Sunny characters' matches. That could be a bad sign in future rounds.
(11)Geoffrey (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - 47 (75.81%) > (6)Maurice Moss (The IT Crowd) - 15 (24.19%)
-Moss received a fair amount of votes on Poll of the Day, but the other boards overwhelmingly chose Geoffrey. It's been a good contest for Fresh Prince so far, and we haven't even seen Carlton or Will yet.
-Personally, I thought Sam did well for himself here. If I ever hold this contest again, I hope the Cheers crew does better in the nomination phase - if Sam and Cliff were to have gotten better seeds, they could have made it far!
