-We've been seeing British sitcom characters bomb left and right in this contest, so this was a really refreshing change of pace. Shame Brent didn't win, though; Scott vs. Brent would have been amazing.
-The votals for this match were incredible. IIRC, this is our first time seeing a Futurama character in the contest, and I have a feeling the series' other reps are gonna be huge too.
How the hell did Kelso win? He's just the ridiculously stereotypical tyrannical boss who is shown to have a soft spot on rare occasions. He's not that funny...
And how is Bart Simpson the underdog to Louie? I voted for Louie because he's probably the funniest guy on the planet right now, but I would've expected Bart Simpson to get more nominations than Louie.
I actually like Kelso a lot - I think he's easily one of the best characters on Scrubs. Granted, I nonetheless like George Sr. quite a bit better, but still!
As for Bart, he didn't do nearly as well in the nomination phase as I expected. I think he only got four nominations, whereas Louie got seven or eight, IIRC. So far, it seems like a close match; I think Bart deserves to be considered the favorite, but I voted for Louie, and I'm definitely rooting for him!
RESULTS FOR DAY 8 (WORLD'S GREATEST BOSS DIVISION, PART TWO):
(6)Will Smith (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - 54 (72%) > (11)Jeff Boomhauer (King of the Hill) - 21 (28%)
-Not only was Will a huge vote draw, he also blew out Boomhauer, who's a reasonably popular character in his own right. I have a feeling Will could win this division.
-Community's been having a fantastic contest so far. Jeff did well, Troy did even better... and even though they both lost, Annie and Chang nonetheless did better than I expected.
(1)Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother) - 38 (86.36%) > (16)Henchman 21 (The Venture Bros.) - 6 (13.64%)
-Looks like Henchman 21 is one of the strongest 16-seeds. That's a dubious honor, though!
(8)Cliff Huxtable (The Cosby Show) - 22 (59.46%) > (9)Creed Bratton (The Office) - 15 (40.54%)
-Early on in the match, I was scared to death that Creed would win this, so I'm definitely relieved that Cliff won the day vote. It's not that I don't like Creed - he's my favorite Office character by far - but c'mon, it's BILL COSBY!
I actually do think Creed is awesome, but there's no way in hell he's more deserving of a win than Cliff. The Cosby Show is underrated, in all honesty; despite being well-known, it's usually not given all that much credit on "Best Sitcom" lists and the like, and that's a shame.
(3)Sterling Archer (Archer) - 40 (78.43%) > (14)Leon Black (Curb Your Enthusiasm) - 11 (21.57%)
-Really solid performance from Archer here. I doubt Leon is turbofodder or anything, so the fact that Archer tripled him means that Hyde might be in trouble next round.
-Futurama is probably one of the most well-liked sitcoms on this site, right up there with Seinfeld, Scrubs and Fresh Prince. As such, Basil looks pretty impressive.
(4)Jerry Seinfeld - 38 (53.52%) (13)Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor - 33 (46.48%)
After seeing Wilson almost beat Marshall early in the contest, I had a feeling Jerry/Tim was going to be an explosive match. The Television: Broadcast TV board is favoring Jerry by a decent margin, but it's a tie on PotD and B8, and Television: Cable and Satellite is favoring Tim. C'mon, Tool Man upset...!
Also, it looks like Butters is the strongest South Park character in the contest. Probably by a decent margin, too.
-The TV boards barely supported The Todd at all, but he was much more popular on the social boards. I really thought an upset was going to happen for a while.
(7)Dr. Christopher Turk (Scrubs) - 36 (54.55%) > (10)Cotton Hill (King of the Hill) - 30 (45.45%)
-Hank and Boomhauer may have bombed, but Cotton did great here. Makes me feel really optimistic about Dale's chances against The Fonz next round.
RESULTS FOR DAY 14 (COULD I *BE* ANY MORE OF A DIVISION?, PART TWO):
(6)Zapp Brannigan (Futurama) - 44 (67.69%) > (11)George Jefferson (The Jeffersons) - 21 (32.31%)
-George Jefferson performed better than I expected. I'm proud of you, GameFAQs!
(3)Dr. John "JD" Dorian (Scrubs) - 33 (55%) > (14)April Ludgate (Parks and Recreation) - 27 (45%)
-Almost every 14-seed has looked golden, and April was no exception. If I had to guess, she benefitted quite a bit from Ron Swanson's presence, as he probably brought more P&R fans into the topic.
(7)Eric Matthews (Boy Meets World) - 41 (77.36%) > (10)Charlie Harper (Two and a Half Men) - 12 (22.64%)
-LMAO. Despite being a lowly 16-seed, Jake might actually be a stronger entrant than Charlie, whose tiger blood has seemingly been replaced with sloth blood.
-I wonder who'd win in a match-up between Urkel and Ruxin - they were definitely the most impressive 16-seeds, IMO! Sadly, this is kind of an underperformance from GOB, and he's the underdog against Zoidberg at the moment.
Tom/Elaine has been really close; Elaine had the early vote, but Tom's been doing better these past few hours. Aside from that, we have a KotH character finally doing well; a great performance from Tracy Jordan (who'd be winning if not for B8); and a rubbish performance from Tobias. Maybe I'm underestimating Eric, but it really seems like Tobias is laying an egg here. From the looks of it, I'd be surprised if he even got past Dale next round.
-The first two AD characters in Round One, Buster and George Sr., looked solid... but the other characters have had pretty underwhelming performances. Tobias is no exception, apparently.
RESULTS FOR DAY 18 (FOUR TOUCHDOWNS IN ONE DIVISION, PART THREE):
(1)Al Bundy (Married... With Children) - 44 (56.41%) > (8)Hal (Malcolm in the Middle) - 34 (43.59%)
-A great match between the two best sitcom dads this side of Phil Dunphy.
(5)Uncle Phil (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - 46 (58.97%) > (4)Eric Cartman (South Park) - 32 (41.03%)
-Television: Broadcast TV went with Cartman, but everyone else chose Phil. In particular, Poll of the Day essentially spat on Cartman's face - Phil won that board 14-2.
(3)Archie Bunker (All in the Family) - 37 (56.06%) > (6)Jim Halpert (The Office) - 29 (43.94%)
-Archie's making it to Round Three! This is like an early Christmas for me. :P
(7)Dick Solomon (3rd Rock From the Sun) - 49 (73.13%) > (2)Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) - 18 (26.87%)
Nichtcrawler X posted... From: TheCodeisBosco | #085
(7)Dick Solomon (3rd Rock From the Sun) - 49 (73.13%) > (2)Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) - 18 (26.87%)
-LMAO What do you find so funny about that?
BB might be more recent, but 3rd Rock is practically legendary.
I think the sheer amount of hate TBBT gets is hilarious. I definitely wasn't criticizing Solomon/3rd Rock, if that's the impression you got - I think John Lithgow is the man.
(3)Troy Barnes (Community) - 39 (60.94%) > (11)Geoffrey Butler (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - 25 (39.06%)
-I wouldn't be surprised if most people saw this as an upset! This is a great performance from Troy, and though I think a Troy > Kramer upset is far-fetched, I think Troy could very well get 45% or so on him, or at least 40%.
-The only match of the day that wasn't a blowout. Bart probably benefitted from the presence of the Futurama duo, but even still, this isn't a great performance from The Janitor.
RESULTS FOR DAY 21 (SUIT UP DIVISION, PART THREE):
(1)Barney Stinson (How I Met Your Mother) - 49 (73.13%) > (8)Cliff Huxtable (The Cosby Show) - 18 (26.87%)
-This is definitely a legen-wait for it-dary performance from Barney. Cliff tied him on the Television: Cable and Satellite board, but on the other three boards, the winner was obvious.
(4)Carlton Banks (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) - 40 (63.49%) > (12)Frank Costanza (Seinfeld) - 23 (36.51%)
-Phil Dunphy is better than either one of these characters, though. :P
-This was a tie when the match was supposed to end, but someone on Television: Broadcast TV finally broke up the tie twenty minutes later. A truly stunning upset, and one that completely makes up for the similarly close Shawn > McGuirk result!
-We were SO CLOSE to having one of the best upsets possible in the contest. Dang. I'm still proud of GameFAQs for supporting Hawkeye so much, though - I believe he did even better against Jerry than Tim Taylor did.
(3)Dennis Reynolds (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) - 28 (63.64%) > (6)Andy Bernard (The Office) - 16 (36.36%)
-It's scary how much Television: Broadcast TV loves Always Sunny. Dennis got more votes on that board alone than Andy got overall.
(2)Homer Simpson - 43 (69.35%) > (7)Dr. Christopher Turk - 19 (30.65%)
-This site sure loves its animated sitcoms! Homer didn't let himself get outdone by Fry or Bender, as he easily doubled Turk. I honestly though this match would be a 55-45 affair, so I'm really surprised.
-Yet another 1-seed performance that's neither impressive nor unimpressive.
(4)Abed Nadir (Community) - 34 (65.38%) > (5)Frank Reynolds (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) - 18 (34.62%)
-It's amazing how inconsistent Always Sunny characters are in this contest. One day after Dennis Reynolds managed to look like one of Round Two's stars, Frank went out and looked like one of the round's biggest bombs. I get that Abed is the fan favorite on Community, but still, this is a terrible performance from Frank.
-Even more baffling than the Abed/Frank blowout. Maybe people were getting tired of the Futurama dominance, I don't know... but either way, this is a big upset in my eyes, regardless of what the seeds say.
-If it was up to the other three boards, Eric actually would have won this match, albeit only by a single vote. On Board 8, though, he bombed in hilarious fashion, netting only a single vote (compared to Ron's 13). Crisis averted!
