Clearly the 3DS has a lot of issues: the crappy battery life, the screens scratching each other problem, the lack of dual analog sticks...
From a business perspective, it's far better for Nintendo to admit the problem NOW and make those necessary fixes while it's still early. The "Ambassadors" already got their NES ROMs, so Nintendo should not be restrained in their future business tactics just to appease a small minority of early adapters...who, I might add, knew the risks of early adaptation but willingly took them anyway.
And a 2DS, priced around $100, would easily double Nintendo's userbase overnight, assuming that they solve the other problem: lack of high-quality, original, innovative games.

There's no reason I should have to PAY for something I will NEVER use. Considering that the 3D parallax barrier is the console's most expensive component, a 2DS would make the console more affordable for those who simply do not care about 3D. Iwata has said no game will ever require 3D to progress so that's not a problem either.

...yeah uh... the battery life isn't horrible if you move down the brightness, it's decent. hell, turn off wi-fi too and it starts being pretty good and solid. could be better sure (and there's a third party battery that's bigger which doubles the job), but as long as you aren't maxing out everything that drains it, you'll be fine and can pull a good 5 hours out of it. never had a problem with 'screens scratching each other' though because uh, they can't. you might get something about the rubber lines on the bottom appearing on the top but they really shouldn't be scratching ever, just wipe 'em off. and lacking dual analog is quite alright as it's not necessary to play a lot of games with 'em. helps for some genres, but not needed for most. honestly the 3DS doesn't really have any real physical problems going for it. no sense to redesign it now either.

3D also gives a lot of people headaches, honestly I know more people who hate 3D than actually like it
I think that is the reason why I am seeing more movie ads say "in 3D and 2D" now. I don't remember them advertising 2D on 3D movies until recently. There has to be a reason for them to make it obvious that there is a 2D version of the movie, and I am thinking it is because they see some people being annoyed with 3D.
I don't get why people b**** about the 3D. Games can be played with or without, and some people enjoy the 3D experience. It's not like these games are designed where they can ONLY be played in 3D.

I have astigmatism in both eyes. 3D movies make my eyes water for the first 30 minutes. I assure you, I won't have the 3D on.
I have astigmatism in one eye and 3D is really hit and miss for me. The only 3D things that have worked for me are 3D shows (I mean short things up to 15 minutes long, never saw anything in 3D for longer) and the 3DS for a short amount of time. Everything else either makes me confused or gives me headaches, if it works at all. I am also not much of a fan of 3D.

It could be a pretty good idea, but they would need some decent marketing. They are already having trouble convincing people that the 3DS is not just a DS with 3D attached to it. It would take...a serious ad campaign to explain what the hell the 2DS is to the general public.

Or maybe they should sell a version without speakers? After all, there has to be some people who always play with the volume off. And it's not like you need to listen to most games when you play them.

Actually, the more accurate assumption is that the mom buys whichever one is cheaper (I assume the 2DS), and the kid throws a temper-tantrum because he wanted the 3DS.

Well, to further analyze this analogy, more than likely a mother with little to no understanding of gaming is going to buy exactly what the kid asked for. If the kid said 3DS, she'll buy a 3DS. She's unlikely to try and interpret what the kid is saying as anything other than exactly what he said.
