Trying to figure out the contest format would be interesting. If 64 different rivalries were accepted into the bracket, I wonder how you guys would feel about having 12 hour matches for round 1 and switching to 24 hour matches in round 2. That would result in a 47 day contest.
If 128 different rivalries got in, we'll be looking at the same format we had for the past 2 contests.
Took about 1 hour, 20 minutes to reach 1000 nominations.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I highly doubt Bacon puts 128 teams into the bracket, so he'll either do a 64-team 24-hour contest like old times (since we'd still get 128 characters), or he might do a 64-team 12-hour contest and make it a mini-contest.
I do kind of like the idea of having 12 hour matches for round 1 and 24 hour matches for round 2 and beyond. It would be a 47 day contest with that format. Bacon might have to do that if we can't get this contest started by October 21st so it doesn't interfere with the Christmas break.

Its 15 noms though, and every other 15 nom contest has had 128 entrants. I'm not ruling it out completely even if it seems less likely this time around

Technically we have 30 noms then, since we get 2 characters per 1 nomination entry.

Yep.
Part of me wonders if we'll actually get enough noms for 128 legitimate rivalries without a ton of overlap anyway, so I'm guessing it's only gonna be a 64 team contest.
The suggestion database has 72 suggestions right now, which already includes character overlap. I won't consider 128 entrants until the list grows to at least 200.

Sounds like a pretty bad contest. Although, Link/Ganondorf is such a bad rivalry that we could see something else win. Cloud/Sephiroth upset train let's do this!
It will be interesting to see how people vote. They can take the actual rivallry into account, vote for their favourite of the four (like if you add two characters from four-ways votes together) or vote based on the two characters in each team (people may vote their second/third favourite over their first/fourth favourite)
Either way I don't see a Link/Ganondorf team winning.

I'll be saddened if Link/Ganon wins. Cloud got 46.5% on Link last year. Link/Ganon would probably be below 52% in a Link/Cloud/Seph/Ganon 4-way or even lower. Add to that that the Cloud/Sephiroth relationship is possibly the greatest thing about FFVII's story, and I think I'm going to take Cloud/Seph here.
This contest might be interesting in terms of the x-stats. If Cloud/Sephiroth wins, it's probably because it's an overall stronger group compared to Link/Ganondorf. If you were to combine Cloud and Sephiroth's x-stat values, it would be higher than the combined x-stat values for Link and Ganondorf.

A Link/Zelda team got 59% on a Vincent/Bidoof team in 2007. A Cloud/Sephiroth team will probably be the strongest on paper unless we get a Mario/Sonic team or something with differing fanbases.

You know, I have a feeling the bracket is going to be dominated by FF in terms of number of entrants. Series like MGS, Mario, and Zelda are going to be limited just due to overlap because the characters carry over from game to game, but in FF, every cast is different, so I feel like we're going to get 10+ rivalries from FF alone. Plus, this is going to be a weak field anyway.

Same game, and Einstein kills Hitler. If he doesn't, that'll be cheating, since it'll have enough noms and be eligible. And nothing says a fair contest like picking and choosing who gets to make it instead of the users!
Mario v Sonic is probably the best "legit" entry that I can think of (involving more common characters).
That said, I'm not opposed to Link winning again because at this point it's crossed the line so far it's reached utter hilarity, and every additional victory just adds to it.

I was actually looking forward to having our 1000th contest match arrive during the next contest, but that might not happen if only 64 rivalries are accepted into the bracket. So far, we have had a total of 896 contest matches, including all of the bonus matches (that includes Link/Jay Solano).

From: -LusterSoldier- | #343 I see Bacon finally put a link to the nomination form on the front page. That should help out the total number of nominations.
oh wow thats much faster than he usually does
