I know that different people have different taste, but there's a general consensus on which girls are hot and not, right? Also, I do know that being a bit chubby back then was supposed to be attractive cause that meant that they were better at bearing children or w/e.
Now that I got those out of the way, this is what inspired me to ask this question.
I've been reading these Korean comic books that tell the story of Greek and Roman Mythology(I've read it in text only form before, but I've just been bored lately and those were on my family's book shelf) that shows a lot of the paintings of Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses from the Renaissance area. Well, a lot of the pictures of the "beautiful women", whether it be Goddesses or human women, are mostly ugly. I think I've only seen like 2 or 3 pictures of girls where I thought they were genuinely attractive.
I'm guessing that was the standard of beauty back then for some reason? I wonder why that is? Especially a pic of Hera(wife of Zeus) grossed me the hell out, and she's supposed to be so beautiful that Zeus took so much effort into making her his wife. This also brings another question: If a girl that is attractive by nowadays standards went back in time, would the guys of that era look at her the same way I look at the women in the paintings?
What people like generally has a lot to do with culture. Different cultures like different things. I forget the term for it, but I remember it being discussed in my cultural anthropology class.
So, as cultures change, so do the things that cultures find attractive.
What do you mean what does that have to do with it? If I got thrown back in time, seduced a woman I could stand, and got her naked only to find hair everywhere including the aforementioned buffalo roaming the wild fields of her crotch, that would be a God damn deal breaker for me. No thanks Chewbacca, I'll do it myself.

I'm pretty sure Lihlih was talking about natural beauty, not about whether women shaved down there or anything like that, but I'm also pretty sure you knew that, as well. Did you have a bad experience of that nature lately and simply needed to vent?

I was just talking about the standard of beauty, purely based on their face and body(although, most of the bodies in the paintings were pretty damn good). Also, I think being shaved was the standard of beauty back then, since none of the girls in the paintings had hair other than where it's necessary.(yes, the Korean comic books show nudity, which is weird, but I guess it's ok cause they're works of art)
But I don't know, honestly whenever a show or a class or movie or whatever delves into something pertaining to how hot some chick is hundreds of years ago, it's the first thing I think of. Like how pirates were probably the most vile things to ever live but they've been romanticized by our culture.

There is a definite natural standard of 'beauty' written into each man/woman's mind that's all based on just natural evolutionary sexual attraction and bla bla
The rest/extra stuff is just based on when you live. like 80s hair was hot in the 80s, it aint now. Pale skinned women in the roman empire were 'hot' because it meant they were rich and had to do nothing, now a tan is far more attractive, etc.
Minuscule things like that are subjective. Very few societies differ on the size/shape of a person though. I've only seen jamaican people actually consider a woman beautiful the fatter her stomach is, but that's a story for another day.
