I think my hand is retarded or something. I can't do normals into specials or anything past that reliably. I may be rusty, but are there any tips on how to be able to bust these out reliably?

Is it speed or timing that's your problem? Also, since you're saying specials I'm assuming your talking about 2D fighters which is not my thing >.<

Oddly enough, I'm pretty good at being able to do them on Street Fighter 4. I can do plenty of them with Dan, Abel, Adon, and a few others I main.

My problem comes with MvC3. For whatever reason I just have a much harder time doing them for this game. I keep busting out the wrong move or something sometimes, and I don't get it.

MvC3 combos are cake compared to the harder links in SFIV.

Timing can be kind of tricky to get down in MvC3 because it always felt like you could input buttons in the combo ahead of where you actually were in the combo, and it can mess you up.

I have the same problem too. I can do them OK in SF4, but not in MVC3 for some reason.

With MvC3, you usually wanna be inputting the special after the hit. The game has plenty of hitstun, and normals can be cancelled, so doing it too early is a bigger concern.

Somewhat related question: how long does it generally take to get used to an arcade stick? I bought one recently but seem to have real trouble reliably getting moves to come out, even basic quarter circles and DP motions, never mind combos. In-game button logs show that the motions are correct, so it may be timing issues, but I did get the stick second hand which is causing me to ponder whether it's really my fault. It's a Hori stick so its good quality, and the seller said it had barely been used, but this being my first stick I can't really judge condition too accurately, although it looks fine.

Stick usually takes 3-4 weeks. It gets easier as soon as you get a better grip of the stick. Hitting the buttons just take practices. Just make sure you are using all your fingers and not just your index/middle/thumb.

Practice fireball and dragon punch motions. I would recommend just doing 100 fireballs/dragon punch on P1 side, then do it on P2 side every time you get bored. Remember, don't grip the stick too tight, that's usually why people have trouble getting used to it.

Let me ask you guys another question.

How do you guys go about doing the DP motion? I normally go left, down right, down left. Should I instead be going straight down?

Left, then slide from down-to-left... if I'm on the right side. The motion finishes in the bottom left (or right) corner of the stick.

It's really the same thing on a pad though.

Personally, I adjusted to my stick very quickly. I just did some QCF and DP moves every day.
