What "direction" is there to do by putting Ryder and New Nexus together as heels anyway?

Jobbing to The Usos is not a step up for Ryder, even if it means he's on TV.

Maybe after Miz finishes getting destroyed by Alex Riley he can feud with Ryder. Those would be some fun promos.

You know what would be a fun feud? Ryder vs. ADR.

Ryder can even have "Personal Ring Announcer Scott Stanford" to counteract Ricardo, and The Big O to counteract a returning Brodus Clay.

I really feel that's what wrestling lacks these days. Feuds between upper card guys and lower card guys.

Like Steve Austin vs Bret Hart was one of the best feuds of all time and when you think about it, when it started Austin wasn't really on Bret Hart's level. Austin was like a midcarder when that feud started, wasn't he? I mean I know he'd won KotR recently but Bret Hart was a perpetual WWF championship threat at the time.

These days it only happens because of MitB cash ins, which is weak.

dave/the observer usually has a good handle on what's going on in the company. yeah, they get stuff wrong sometimes, but he does have sources in the company so his reports aren't baseless.

MitB isn't really the problem either. It can still be used effectively.

WWE doesn't know how else to elevate someone except with WHOAMG Title Win Out of Nowhere, and it doesn't matter if they have a briefcase or not.

I mean, Sheamus wasn't a MitB cash-in guy, but for the abruptness of his main event push he might as well have been.

And I still maintain they did a great job elevating Miz from bottom-feeder to main-eventer. It was just once he GOT THERE that they ended up dropping the ball some. It's by no means unsalvageable though.

Kinda, yeah. Few of them gel together quite as predictably as Cena's, though. Orton's the only other guy with his powerslam->backbreaker->DDT->RKO thing. Kofi maybe but I wanna say he mixes up the order more and doesn't always do them all in a row.

Many guys have lots of trademarks but I wouldn't really say most of them dump them all in a row like Cena does.

Though I guess I'm being harsh. Truth vs Cena was a decently done midcarder vs ME feud, I think, and it was even quite recent. If only they'd given it more time or written it a little different.

There's a reason Bret Hart popularized it. Not only is it a nice extended sequence that eventually gets really easy to pull off without communication once everyone who works with you knows it, it also serves as something the fans grow to expect and look forward to if they are rooting for you, and then in BIG TIME matches when you subvert the formula with counters or reversals or whatnot then it matters more than someone just countering the finisher. It's like a routine has been broken.

Cena does the same thing. He hits his 5MoD a lot, but in big matches often times at some point the sequence goes awry.

I'd say HBK just had a few moves that logically chained together and when he'd get lazy they'd make a 5MOD.

Like he had that flying elbow smash->kip up thing, and then an elbow drop he'd throw in after that., and sweet chin music. But he wouldn't always sweet chin music after the elbow drop. Sometimes he'd just go for the pin there. Or sometimes he'd just roll around in pain or whatever. Actually I think sometimes he'd just SCM after the elbow smash->kip up too.

And then there are all the matches where he'd SCM out of nowhere and there'd be no setup whatsoever, and it'd actually be out of nowhere unlike the RKO or Twist of Fate or whatever.

I remember Shawn's thing was, he'd hit the flying elbow, kip up, go into his stomping taunt for the SCM. Which would then *never* hit, the other guy would always duck it, usually try for his own finisher, which Shawn would slip out of, *then* hit the SCM and win. It was so drawn out that it it only seemed formulaic when you realize that exact sequence happened in sooooooo many matches

The one thing I will say that I hate about Cena's 5MoD is that it's one of those sequences that requires opponent co-operation. At a certain point in the procession the other guy HAS to throw a clothesline or a haymaker to lead into the Protobomb.

Does it though? People once in a while will duck the first shoulder block (the second rarely) and *everyone* escapes the AA on the first go, but in between there it never changes. A counter to the protobomb or 5KS? Can't recall the last time I've seen those.

This wouldn't bother me half as much as it does if he just STEPPED BEHIND THE OPPONENT. I can buy the contrivance of someone happening to punch him in that position so he can counter them; I can't buy that the supposedly competent opponent suddenly forgets how to throw a punch and madly flails 180 degrees like a cartoon character. If he actually did something instead of his opponent just spinning for his benefit it would be a lot more tolerable.

Psht, Santino's finisher is way more distinct than any routine surrounding it! The Cobra's pretty much the defacto main thing by itself.

Either way, people tend to have their signature moves and all, but it's when those happen every match, and are the end of every match, and you can do nothing notable otherwise... well, that's just kinda lame. And that's kinda happening way too often with too many people at once.

Cena and Randy of course. Next guy who comes to mind is Ezekiel Jackson since he's just... not that good, not that mobile. And that routine is so, so terrible. Multiple body slams and torture rack are all bad as a "finisher".

I would like to see more counters to the Protobomb itself, yeah, but it doesn't bother me that almost no one counters the Five Knuckle Shuffle.

I mean, they've just been hit with a Protobomb, which at one point was his finisher. They should be hurting for a bit!

On the flipside to that, if you are of main-event caliber and hypothetically COULD counter, it makes more sense to let him hit it and then counter the AA, since that is more likely to put you in position to do damage, unless you have a ground submission like Bryan.

Crazy Scenario that I could actually see happening.

ADR wins Money in the Bank
CM Punk wins by hook or by crook (more likely by crook), and actually manages to walk out as WWE Champion, with the announcers actually pleading for Del Rio to do something about it. But he does not.

The next night on Raw, we open with Vince coming out and declaring the WWE Championship vacant since CM Punk has left WWE.

Then ADR comes out, and says that the reason he did not cash in was because he knew that last night was not his Destiny...tonight is. And then he cashes in. With no Champion to fight.

Vince is perplexed, and opens the briefcase and reads the contract carefully, and determines that since Money in the Bank guarantees a Championship Match, and since there is no Champion, Del Rio gets to choose who he wants to face for the vacant title.

FANTASY OPTION A: Del Rio picks someone like Evan Bourne and after a few close calls makes him tap to become WWE Champion.

FANTASY OPTION Z: Del Rio picks Zack Ryder, assuming it will be a pushover...but thanks to some distraction by John Cena, Zack Ryder wins and becomes the new WWE Champion!

They could even play my scenario out all night, just like when Sheamus had the opportunity to pick his #1 Contender. They could do that promo to open the show, and Vince would give confirmation of ADR's option, and then Del Rio could announce that it will be in the main event, so Superstars have all night to campaign to be the man to get the shot.

That would give a nice running storyline through the show, and then at the end, just like Sheamus, Del Rio would choose someone we haven't seen all night--Zack Ryder.

Just this time the result is a little bit different!
