They have been milked so much in recent years, that I've lost most interest in them. I used to enjoy them quite a bit.. It seems most don't add anything new either. Generic FPS FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Kinda. Helps that most co-op games these days are FPS's. But I am looking forward to Battlefield 3, Dead Island (if that counts), RAGE, the new Halo stuff, Operation Raccoon City and kinda MW3.

Sure I do. Bulletstorm was one of my favorite games this year, in fact.
And I don't get the whole "OMG there all so generic COD clones", it simply isn't true. Bullestorm aint like Far Cry, which aint like Bioshock, which definitely isn't Serious Sam, which plays nothing like Metro 2033, which has no resemblance to RAGE, etc. It's just lazy, blanket criticism.

I feel like I just read something like this in the RPG topic.
I like FPS games. I think they're really gorgeous, and some of the ranking systems are pretty innovative I think. That said, I am awful at them. So so bad. As a result I just leave them alone, preferring to stick to fighting games, shmups, racing games, and the occasional WRPG.

Fps games that strive for creativity or some kind of originality are fantastic. Those that just copy what's passing currently are horrible. Example of a great upcoming game: Bioshock Infinite Example of a bad upcoming game: MW3
As someone who has almost no FPS experience, most of them do feel similar to me when I play them.
I think the primary people with that thought pattern just haven't played a lot of FPS to begin with.
I've never particularly had a problem with the genre but I've also just never really gotten into it.

This so much.
Yeah we tend to clump them together, especially when we see a million people praising the same ho-hum game, but if you judge the game by its own merits they could surprise you.
