Why would they do this to me? One game is one of my favorite games based on my favorite superhero and the other is one of my favorite horror games I thought I'd never get a sequel for, but desperately wanted it for a long time.

I am currently replaying both Spider-Man games in anticipation of the next one... but maybe I can replay Alan Wake and the associated DLCs before it comes out too. But with Mortal Kombat 1 releasing soon too, that makes it hard!

And then if I want to play Super Mario Bros. Wonder, I'll have to play all of the other Mario games before that, which is going to be tough.

I played alan wake for the first time recently. Loved the story. Also loved the gameplay initially but it got kind of repetitive.

All games are in the Mario canon, including spin-offs like Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Dance Dance Revolution, and especially Smash Bros.

Played Alan Wake Remastered for the first time last month. Made it halfway through Chapter 3. Gameplay was not for me. Story was kind of cool though.

I'm not interested in Spider-Man 2 at all. I feel like the formula was getting stale towards the end of the first game, and Miles Morales didn't change it up at all.

Admittedly, I never actually finished Miles Morales, because I felt it was kind of lacking too.

However, on my newest playthrough of the original, I've somehow unlocked a new level of transcendence and am a total badass at combat in this game now, so I find it a lot more fun. Not sure what it was, but once I started to open up with more gadgets usage, I feel like I've just done so much better now.

I played Alan Wake Remastered after playing Control and loved it. Felt like I was missing out on Waiting for Alan Wake II for a decade like everyone else

That honestly doesn't really help that much! Should've been another month maybe. Actually it's a bit worrying if they don't have the confidence to stick with the original date and be competitive with Spider-Man 2. Still, poor AW man - the first releases alongside Red Dead Redemption, and now the sequel releases alongside Spider-Man 2.

I liked the DLC for Alan Wake more than the regular campaign. I also thought American Nightmare (shorter XBLA release) was in many ways also a better experience because it was half (or maybe a third) of the length but still managed to capture a lot of what was interesting about Alan Wake.

I played this at the beginning of the year and liked it quite a bit despite its flaws (dont find Alan Wake likeable at all, some sections are just run run run) I especially like the really weird goofy banter the enemy says to you when you fight them

Though it's worth noting this delay might not just be for release date reasons. It gives them some time for extra polish too.

I did manage to beat Spider-Man, and I'm halfway through the second DLC!

Plenty of time to finish and maybe actually play all of Alan Wake again!

I realized Sonic Superstars is out in October too.

How am I supposed to cram playing every Sonic game before this too?

I have officially beaten Spider-Man 100%, all DLCs included.

Next is Miles Morales. Which I didn't really love as much as the original, but we'll see how it goes. Fortunately that one is much shorter!

Starting Miles Morales so that I can get the LORE of moving with the exaggerated swagger of a black teen.

I don't know why but Alan Wake passed me by. Although I have got it downloaded now so I think it's gonna be my next game after I get the platinum for Bloodstained.

I honestly don't know what to expect because I haven't read up on it at all

Edit: just discovered it was pretty much xbox exclusive until 2021 which makes sense as to why I have not played it and don't know anything about it

It was on Steam for a long while too! That's how I'll be playing it again. I think I may end up getting Alan Wake 2 on PS5 though since I don't think my PC can handle it at max settings.

Also I'm quickly remembering why I don't love Miles Morales.

The fun of Spider-Man was being able to use gadgets to have a lot of fun eliminating enemies quickly and constantly be moving in the middle of fights. Even at the end of the game I never got tired of the combat because it was always a fun challenge to keep moving fast and getting rid of enemies with webbing or stunning/distracting groups of enemies with gadgets while I focus on others.

I'm still early on in the skill tree in Miles Morales, but I'm already much more bored of the combat. Venom attacks are a lot less fun than the gadgets. And you get all of three other gadgets aside from your basic web shooter. The fights all focus on using Venom moves to weaken enemies enough to take them down but... It just brings everything to a crawl. I'd love to just throw an Impact Web to get rid of a machine gun guy, but I just kinda have to deal with it. I can't even perfect dodge and then web over to him for an instant KO, unless that gets unlocked later.

It's honestly kind of frustrating to go from the original to Miles Morales now. Hoping as I get further in that things get better, but I really don't remember that on my first playthrough.

Miles Morales Update: This game is more fun when you just unload your Venom attacks the moment you get them loaded. It's not as fun as the original still, but if you just use them constantly, you end up having a better time in combat. I still prefer a more wild style with more enemies you can just web away and take down to whittle down the enemies rather than in this game where you're encouraged to beat all of them down.

I also think stealth in this game is a lot worse, even though you have a literal camouflage move. The positioning of enemies is a lot worse and even when I try to draw them away, the sight paths make absolutely no sense to me. Like nobody will be even looking in that general direction and they'll still say they're in danger of being alerted. It makes no sense.

And one other frustration is that they have SO MANY THINGS locked behind New Game +. I can't even get two more slots of webbing upgraded until I hit New Game +. What in the world is that? Let me shot web since I have only one move that lets me!

The gadgets are my least favorite part of Spider-Man. They never felt like they fit well into combat.

See, on my first playthrough I didn't use gadgets often.

On my second playthrough I just did, I used gadgets and felt like I had transcended to a new level of godhood. The gadgets rule and make it so much more fun! It speeds up fights too.

I was always annoyed that the weapon wheel came up accidentally while hitting R1 to rapid-fire webs. I still used them on NG+/higher difficulty because say, the drones are definitely useful, but with such a fine-tuned melee combat and movement system, I'm not usually wanting to pause and take out heavy webs for two shots before I run out of ammo and have to use something else.

But the weapon wheel made it so you only had to take a second to hold the button and flick the stick one way to change it. I never felt it interrupted the pace at all.

Curiously, did you like the combat in Miles Morales more then?

I played the Remastered version this time and it didn't carry over from the original.

Edit: Sorry, I never beat Miles Morales. So I just restarted it.

I did, actually. The Venom powers and reduced number of gadgets worked better for me in combat. Not sure if I'd say the camo improved the stealth, though.

We had the Mario Wonder Direct.

When are we getting the Alan Wake 2 Direct?

Just beat SM:MM! It was... not as fun as the original to me. I do agree with the person who mentioned the ending part was tons of fun. I agree there. Absolute highlight of the game.

I just don't feel like enough time and story was given to this game for a lot of the emotional beats to hit. Tinkerer and Prowler could have used a bit more development and time around one another. It really felt like this game was on super speed compared to the original.

I still didn't like the combat nearly as much, but I like it better than when I started at least. Just throwing out Venom moves when I got them made it much better. It just feels like a step back though.

The Stealth aspects didn't make any more sense to me after the fact. Just baffling pathing that confused me when I tried to understand the sight lines, even with the one suit upgrade that let me see them. The camo stuff seemed okay. I used it more to reset stealth encounters than anything else. Or to make sure I could get clean stealth takedowns.

Overall, it's fine as the Arkham Origins upgrade. A nice side story. I just wasn't as into it, and I don't think it was because I played these back to back. Because I wasn't into it when it first came out either. But I appreciate it for what it is.

Fortunately, this gives me plenty of time to play Alan Wake now!

Started up a replay of Alan Wake to get ready for next month! Crazy to remember what it was like playing this for the first time and how far Remedy has come since then. Control really felt like a turning point, looking back - will be wild to see this vibe revisited with the new level of production they've achieved.

Max Payne still Remedy's best game imo

Games coming out at the same time doesn't really effect things in the same way as movies coming out at the same time or TV shows coming out at the same time.

Honestly I agree which is why I was legitimately excited to hear they'd be trying their hand at a remake. So much potential there in the modern team's hands as long as they keep true to what made the original great to begin with.
