I'd guess it's likely a combination of a) some people haven't played the later games in the series, and b) even if you have, Blackquill and Sholmes both have reasons people may be turned off by them (too edgy / too silly) ... It's weird. I definitely prefer grounded characters, and yet Sholmes is my favorite non-protagonist in the entire series.
