If anything it just makes me feel sorry for their lack of creativity. Defacing a private jet seems more in line with what their message is.

Context

Stupidity is the only reason. Doubt they give a shit about the climate anyway.

I don't like defacing artwork... I'm the one guy defending confederate statues solely cuz I like statues

If they truly believed man made climate change was that much an existential threat to civilization/our planet, they would resort to more extreme forms of activism

I guess they think it gets them attention. My favorite so far is when they glued themselves to the floor of a car dealership. The staff just left them there while the protesters begged for a bucket to relieve themselves in.

I don't think they realize the paintings at museums are protected by glass.

My guess is they think it'll get them more attention. Someone "attempting" to harm priceless works of art would get more global media coverage than most other things people do to Protest.

Hell someone put a bomb in a statue in San Antonio and I only heard about it from ANOTHER city's news report.

1. no actual damage
2. cost barely anything
3. netted them millions of dollars in media attention

You know what the last noteworthy protest before this from a climate activist was? Do you remember? It was someone setting themself on fire and burning to death outside the Supreme Court. Now tell me.. what was that person's name? Gender? What did that person look like? When did this happen? What were this person's last words? Did you even know this happened?

That is why.

Honestly, that's that the one that came to mind that I had heard about decades ago. But the act overshadowed all other details and I never heard what he was protesting.

that recent thing a few months ago was not an attempted destruction of art, they knew it was behind a super safe glass wall and that it'd get them a shitload of attention for at most a civil fine. if they actually wanted to destroy the painting they'd bring acid capable of eating through that glass

do you know how much harder it'd be to deface a private jet and how much less exposure to their cause it'd get than fake-defacing something in a public area

The problem is, it's also the sort of protest where you sort of dismiss the people doing it as assholes, and thus are more likely to oppose their cause than ever support it. So it's of questionable value at best.

To be fair, I didn't know that this happened until this very topic. And I don't know any of these people's names or identities. Nor do I really care about them or their cause.

And by tomorrow, I will have completely forgotten about it.

I may not know fire guy's name, but at least he had the courage of his convictions. And I respect that.

Except that would be bad. And they probably know that More extreme forms of activism might lose them people who agree with them once before

if they are doing it with spray paint, that's not very environmentally friendly.
