Indeed. By and large, the world really isn't overpopulated so much as it has rampant resource distribution problems, and the US is no exception to that.

This seems true, I think this study was done by an unbiased authority. A lot were done by the patent owner. Which isnt unreasonable, you do want what youre doing to work well enough for people to take it.

The thought of people, in general, living to 200 kind of scares me. The human brain diminishes after less than half that time, typically, and I doubt the pill would address that. So you'd have a population acting geriatric as all-get-out, because they can do no better, on top of general human stupidity. I just... Nope! No thank you. This is a terrible idea.

Supposedly the pill keeps you healthier longer too, so quality if life lasts longer. I dont think this applied to the brain though.

We would have to change society if this happened. If people are consistently living to 150, but they're unable yo make decisions do you take away voting rights?

Memory is fallible, either way. Memories can be altered by outside influences, such as what people say or do around you over time, to say nothing of how memories can be lost or replaced over decades, if that. Lots of people in their 70s and up now don't recall things the way they actually were, more often than not, which tracks with the idea of the strongest memories lasting 75-ish years before perishing.

Now imagine people in their 150s or up, no longer able to remember friends and loved ones who had mattered 20, 30, even 80 years prior. Imagine how miserable some such folks will be, and how miserable everyone else will be dealing with those older folks' misery. That is a terrible idea.

And I feel like big companies would be all for it if it meant retaining wage slaves for longer; people who can't remember where they're from and have nowhere to go but back to work for sub-poverty levels of money. I can hope not as much as I'd like to hope, but let's be honest about the state of the world, here. <_<

I feel we are overpopulated and have been a long while. A decrease of sorts doesn't mean we aren't still overpopulated.

"Overpopulated" means there aren't enough resources to support everyone. That's not remotely true of the US. The problem is not that there aren't enough resources, it's that the vast majority of those resources are hoarded by a handful of people while everyone else is forced to fight amongst themselves for the scraps.

I see it differently. To me being overpopulated would mean too many people for hunting and gathering to be sustainable. Instead we must bend nature to our will through farming and breeding a shit ton of Aminals to feed everyone.

I don't mind the way we live but I feel if someone wants to live that kinda life it should be a viable option to the point everyone could do it if they wanted

Overpopulation is a function of working people to non-working. When people live that much longer with good health, children and pensioners make up a smaller percentage of the current population, and so there's more resources to provide for all.

By that logic, we've been overpopulated for 20,000+ years. Agriculture has been a staple of human civilization for as long as human civilization has been a thing.

It can certainly be argued, but I personally see that as roughly similar to Adams' "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." It's not necessarily wrong, but that sort of attitude and approach isn't particularly useful for understanding the modern world or solving its problems.

I don't forsee anyone living to 200, and I don't see any of these 'pills' working.
