Now more studies out of Japan are saying it works. Why is it being modded??

Because that is the easier option that having mods try and vet what is legitimate medical research vs internet quackery?

The mods aren't doctors. They aren't medical professionals. Most, if they have higher education, just have a bachelors in something unrelated to medicine. You can't really expect them to evaluate medical claims. And while they probably should acknowledge more of a gray area -- particularly when actual medical professionals don't necessarily see things in black & white -- I'm sure they're under mandates from the owners which don't accommodate that kind of nuance.

And I'm sure a lot of the questionable moderation practices are driven by the site's owners rather than just the mods themselves.

Ivermectin is a controversial drug that is not approved for treatment of COVID. The only people still talking about it are anti-vaxxers or people who chose to politicize the pandemic, which entails pretending to distrust the "rushed" COVID vaccines. You were probably modded to prevent the inevitable flame war that you were trying to start.

n=72, divided into three groups (looks like 23, 23, and 22, not sure where the other 4 went), from over a year ago. I was going to comment that it failed to divide the results by vaccination status, but in December 2020, I don't think anyone in Bangladesh was vaccinated, so that's a moot point that nevertheless muddies the data further. I wouldn't exactly call that conclusive, especially not in the face of larger-scale reviews that do not find Ivermectin to be meaningfully helpful.

Given that the primary aim is to avoid liability, I'm guessing they defer to the most recent official recommendations. That would be the most reasonable due diligence that can be expected of them, especially given that GameFAQs is not a place to look for cutting-edge developments in medical practice.

I read it. It said it appeared to reduce the symptoms for 72 people in Bangledesh. It also said that more study was needed, as would be expected for a study that small, meaning it was (of course) followed up by this:

Big picture: I wouldn't be shocked if ivermectin helped a little to reduce symptoms/duration. (I also wouldn't be surprised to see it have other side effects) But a vaccine is going to help far more, and anyone using this tiny study to promote ivermectin in PLACE of a vaccine is not engaging in a science-based discussion. If someone wants to talk about ivermectin after agreeing that a vaccine is the way to start...then OK, let's look at science. But that is very rarely where people are coming from.

when they see people trying to say "that animal dewormer works on a viral infection but ignore the people dying who are inadvertantly proving it doesn't work"

it doesn't take much more effort after that to learn that it indeed, does not work on covid, and that it indeed is just fucking people up because it's horse dewormer.

bleach will kill covid too, you don't see people trying to drink it

There are plenty of things wrong with his use of that paper, but the peer review isn't one of them.
