if you interpret basic as "non-individual recurring enemy" it makes sense. i'm glad the most generic d&d enemies aren't on here

i think malboro are my favorite. they have a unique, creative silhouette. they have a distinctive, memorable gameplay gimmick that somehow doesn't feel too "video gamey". the name also has multiple levels of pun to it.

all the other monsters are missing at least one of those qualities

Ahriman is always gonna be one of my favorites because of its name in FF7 (Allemagne)

uhh, I cant tell what this monsters name is supposed to be, whats the closest thing I can find? Hmm, the French word for Germany? Close enough!

Should be imp. Dunno how can enemies that are very hard to hit, refuse to die, 1 hit kill you, and give you all kinds of status ailments to hell and back can be more likeable on a basic enemy basis.
