It skips the best/second best arc in the manga and rushes everything else to a ridiculous extent with bad presentation. No one likes it.

Uhhh yeah, wow, things really DO feel rushed. Especially that last episode.... like it almost seems like they're setting up a third season, then like, they just montage through overthrowing the demon queen and all that? Did they just not want to do a third season and decided to wrap up the entire story in 11 episodes??

Yeah I suggest you go to the Manga and read at least the Goldy Pond arc. It's absurd that they skipped it, it's so good. If you start at chapter 53 you should be fine

Biggest disappointment of the year. From what I've gathered, the arc covered by season 1 was a one time wonder that the original author couldn't even come close to replicate.

Yeah I think the orphanage arc is far and away the best part of the series, but S2 doesn't even adapt the rest properly.

S1 is 4 or 5 volumes of manga and the whole series is like 20.

a commendable effort to achieve FTL speeds

Seriously though it was not good and I am curious as to the behind-the-scenes stuff of its development. It's not like they ran out of manga material to adapt and had to wing it. The manga was complete and they just decided to speedrun it for some insane reason.

Absolute trash. The manga doesnt live up to the first arc, but it was still decent. The anime though, trash.

Generally considered one of the worst anime adaptations of all time.

Having watched a bunch of the Umineko anime, it has competition, but it may be the winner.

And as others have said, the rest of the series in general does not compare to the first arc, but the one arc that DOES match the first in quality...was completely removed from the show.

There have been theories as to the cause, but nothing official. The strongest theory in my mind is they were forbidden from showing children using guns on TV, which is featured in basically....almost the entirety of the series after the opening arc. Goldy Pond in particular is full of it. So yeah that fucks up the planning a bit.

There's also the not to surprising factor that the manga was over and the series in general is not built to sell merch, and they no longer had any reason to put in effort.

What we do know is that many members of the staff, including the manga writer themselves, requested that their names be removed from the credits in the last few episodes.

The clip show at the end of the final episodes goes over the entirety of a would be season 3, so these factors combined make it clear that they cut their losses and ran. The studio in question, Cloverworks, has been producing anime that cuts huge swaths of content from the source material for years now, but they've been getting a pass because the shows themselves have generally been very well regarded. Promised Neverland S2 is a blight that they won't recover from for some time, to the point where "what are they going to cut from this" has become the first question asked when Cloverworks is revealed to be on a show. Their most recent series, Shadow House followed this same trend. Good show from what I've watched, but they started cutting stiff very early on, so they haven't bucked their methods.

The kids with guns stuff kinda makes sense.... still, this is such a shame. Season 1 is so, so good. And even if the rest of the story never lives up to that first arc, it still deserved better than this I imagine.

Yeah, the series never reached the heights of the Grace Field arc but it certainly deserved better than this. Maybe in a decade or so we'll get a remake.
