Looks like the lovechild of Fusion and Samus Returns. Thrilled they teased some new gameplay gimmicks like that wall slider. Hope to see more.

The more they show, the more I love this thing. Yeah, EMMI is certainly a new SA-X. So glad the 3DS is dead now so we can get a proper 2D Metroid on console.

Remains to be seen. Typically her armor changes for plot reasons rather than purely aesthetic ones.

The fact that the video harps so much on chase sequences makes this seem not likely. It shows ways around that (via camouflage) so maybe it'll open up for exploration at some point, but I have real reservations about this game at this point.

Interested in seeing if the Phantom Cloak item can be used for more than avoiding EMMI. Might be cool to building a boss fight around this gimmick.

Also, very cool that Dread is intended to close the 2D Metroid story arc.

It takes place after Fusion, and her outfit was weird in that one too, so theres probably a story reason for it.

@Dragonair It's excellent. IMO the best 2D Metroid since Super. The new gameplay mechanics (especially the aiming) are what won me over, and I'm glad they're returning in Dread.

My soul left my body when this was announced.

a 2D console Metroid, with a new setting, new enemies, and a continuation of the timeline is everything I wanted.

A friend suggested that because of the ending of Fusion, that this is probably the Federation hunting Samus down since they mentioned the robots were Federation made. REALLY cool idea if so. I believe the suit is the aftermath of her Fusion suit with some robot based upgrades.

They already put Metroid and Super on the Switch virtual console thing, so theres not much else 2d to collect. I guess they could do Fusion + Zero Mission... which now that Im saying it seems pretty smart since Dread is a direct sequel to Fusion.

Allegedly they have a Prime collection totally finished and ready to go, but theyre saving it for closer to when 4 is coming out.

I didn't know this. That's awesome. I lost most of my GBA library but I'm pretty positive I have both Fusion and Zero Mission still. But I don't have a GBA and my original DS is all busted up.

What's the name of that console that came out like a year ago that allows you to play old GBA games all upres'd? I think it even supported every iteration of Game Boy games, original and Color included. It was $200 I think. Probably worth a purchase instead of rebuying them off the eShop, eespecially if it actually makes the games look better.

Yeah, not only did she cause the destruction of their secret Metroid breeding facility, she is also the last living thing with Metroid DNA. They definitely want her. Actually an idea I had before was that they should start the next Metroid game with "The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace." and then pan the camera down to see Samus in Federation custody, imprisoned before the game begins. This would be the explanation for why she doesn't have any powers at the start too

The story is really simple though. Adam was turned into a tutorial machine and Samus was sad about it.

This is what I thought the game was. According to the website, there is a blurb that says trapped on a mechanical alien world, so it doesn't seem to be the case though just going off that. I could be wrong though, but if I'm not, I definitely would've wanted them to take it the GF direction.

If you mean Metroids specifically, I assume they'll be in the game based on Sakamoto saying that this game wraps up the Samus+Metroid story arc, but I'm not sure how as she's the only piece of Metroid DNA left? IDK. Maybe the EMMI extract Metroid DNA from her and clone them.
