Whole series took a turn around 4. Its not really the same at all. May be great games but they dont really feel like Resident Evil

I agree but to be fair RE0 and Code Veronica was when things started getting stale and the formula needed to be changed.

After RE4 every 3rd party shooter was trying to bite the camera and gameplay style.

By the time RE6 came around the formula was stale again. Resident Evil needed a fresh perspective with RE7 and RE8.

because the entire gameplay changed.

it was a "franchise" only because of the spin-offs that weren't main numbered games. otherwise, the first few games followed the same gameplay, just updated and modified as the installments went on.

re4 was where it became a marketable franchise because they ditched the idea of keeping the same gameplay and kept only the lore, story, and "style". but otherwise, it was an entirely different game. and this became acceptable, which is why every iteration is now a different game with the same label slapped on it.

Disagreed. 5 and 6 went in the wrong direction by just going balls deep into "action game" territory, but 7 and 8, the recent remakes, and the Revelations games are the right direction.

I like 5 and 6 while also recognizing they don't really resemble the series roots.

4 reinvigorated the franchise but then we had 2010s capcom. Honestly I never expected a company to turn around from something like that, like a bunch of others. But in the last 5 years they've done the impossible like make good games again, revive megaman, and make 2 of the best resident evil games in the franchise. It's amazing and something I never dreamed would happen.

4 is my favorite to play thru again and again, can't say the same for 5.

Nah, it still has survival horror elements. 5 was the one that went straight up action horror.

It reinvigorated the franchise. If they had kept making games in the classic style then the series probably would have died.

It got a lot of people (myself included) interested in the franchise for the first time. And personally I've played every mainline entry since (except 5 because I never had anyone to co-op with) whereas I would have continued to ignore the series otherwise.

Pretty sure after RE3 they had no idea what to do and made weird games like those fps games and that one where you play as random people.

The franchise was in a bad place and then RE4 came and not only saved it but made it a bigger name than before.

It started one of the best action trilogies there is.

2 was mostly the same with some extra stuff or some story bits rearranged iirc

3 had stuff cut and then other stuff was just done differently- its more of an action game

I never actually cared for RE4 if I'm being honest, spent most of my time on RE Outbreak. Even discounting the stupid fun multiplayer, it's a pretty damn solid RE game.
