It's not a terrible idea. that would ban them for anyone under 17 right now, which is probably around the time most smokers get hooked, and it doesn't take them away from anyone that's already addicted.

we know smoking gives you cancer. but what about marijuana? it's probably just as bad in some way, eventually.

Its an unfortunate procedure but one that all women should have access to.

There should also be better sex education and more access to free birth control. Less unwanted pregnancies = less abortions.

Not sure what a womans choice to do something with her own body has to do with someones choice to smoke and cause damage to their and others around them who arent smokers lungs though.

I wholeheartedly i agree, im one of those that smoke and actually plan to quit. Saturday is my last day. I've quit before(clean for a year) and I've been trying again for the last 8 years but my uncle is a pharmacist that specializes in smoking cessation, so he's already started working with me.

I've heard from reliable pot heads that it magically cures cancer.

This might take awhile to actually "work" but it seems like something that eventually would.

Decriminalization still leaves open the obnoxious opportunity for selective enforcement.

Tobacco is more socially costly than most drugs, so it should be treated especially harshly. That said, I wouldn't support this

underage people who really want to smoke cigs now will still keep getting them from other people. but this will force smoking out of existence(legally anyway) faster.

there is no tobacco black market lol, kids just get their siblings/older friends to buy for them. I know people who started smoking when they were 12

It won't work. Half the retailers in NZ don't give a shit about checking age, and that'll be even more so with this.

On the other hand, another proposal going around in NZ is slashing the nicotine content. That could work - I used to smoke, I switched to vape and slowly reduced the nicotine, and when it got to zero (though this didn't happen when it was merely close to zero) I just stopped feeling the need even without trying.

Realistically though? I'd be very, very surprised if any proposed measure other than maybe "limit sales to a small number of licenced retailers" actually goes ahead.

They'd also have to change the law that allows for homegrowing for this to really be effective. It's not that hard to grow your own, and currently it's 100% legal to do so in NZ as long as it's only for your own / your household's use.
