I don't think I ever actually even took a written test.. certainly not an actual test with a driver.

If I remember correctly I was enrolled in some driver's class in high school where we just went over driving material and I got my leaner's permit. After logging so many hours with my designated driver (parent), I just remember walking in and getting my license at 16.

Once

Nearly failed because I looked over the "wrong" shoulder when backing out of the parking spot. Didn't understand that, but whatever.

Twice. First time I failed right away by backing up too far and grazing a cone. I was nervous as hell lmao.

Second time passed no problem.

For the one to get your permit once, for the actual test with the driving instructor once as well, didn't do so well on parallel parking.

Passed the written and driving portion first try. I took drivers Ed so the written part was easy. Basically the same test I took in class over and over again.

The driving portion was easy because I spent a ton of time on the simulators (which were very accurate) and driving my grandma around (she couldnt drive anymore)

The driving test itself, the first try. I took the written portion twice. The first time, one of the workers lied to me about a document I would need, so I intentionally failed the written portion (a multiple choice test on a computer) because they told me I'd have to take it again when I came back even if I passed. I was pissed off and just wanted to get home quicker because this was an hour roundtrip.

Twice. First time I was dumb and didn't even know how to use the hand parking brake since my dad's car that I practiced in had a parking brake pedal. Then I clipped a curb on a turn and I scraped the curb on the parallel parking -. -

Second time was actually in a different city I didn't know at all lmao. I thought I was gonna fail, the intersection had a "left turn on green" sign but I was paranoid about turning anyway... But it worked out

thought I was gonna fail because the instructor I drove with was in a constant state of annoyance/anxiety and berating me for everything I did. But I passed somehow. >_>

I actually hit a curb on my driving portion, but I think the instructor could tell I was just a nervous kid, so they didn't fail me for it.

I never took it, I don't know how to drive but I have tried to learn on several occasions throughout my life

First time, my brother's car, nearly crashed into the garage door because I freaked out mentally
Second time, my job at Kohls where I applied for driving one of those little carts things in the warehouse, almost ran over the instructor and had another freak out and forgot everything they taught me that day
Third time: Aunt''s car, almost careened into the side of a building because again, had another freak out

I think I'm not suited for driving, something about being behind the wheel has constantly sent me into mental hysterics. That and I'm kinda a cloudy head kinda person, you know, the kind you kinda have to snap your fingers in front of to make sure you've got their attention, that kinda person. I know it's bad but I can't seem to focus my mind into attention like that.

Twice.

I had to use my dad's car for the test. Never driven it before. The brakes were a lot more sensitive than my car that I practiced on.

took drivers ed in high school so didn't need to take a drivers test at the DMV, only a written test and basically all the answers were circled in the little book they give you 5 minutes before you take said test lol... good times.

3 written, 2 driving

The first time we took the written test was for a high school class and I failed it by fucking 2 questions. Still pissed about that.

Do you remember what the rules were for the test?

IIRC on mine touching a curb at all was an auto-fail, along with a couple other things (I remember "failure to stop legally for a school bus" was one, too). Guy still had me go through all the motions though - who knows, maybe he would have let me pass if I didn't scrape on the parallel parking.

Twice. First time I was driving a massive Navigator and scraped a cone during the parking section. Next time I used a car and I breezed through it.

Now when I look back, I feel embarrassed that I failed it because now I can do that park in that SUV in my sleep.

5 times, failed for everything from parallel parking, not utilizing my turn signals enough, speeding, speeding in a school zone, or stopping barely past a stop sign that was obscured by vegetation.

I was self taught though and was learning to drive as a drove to the DMV and during the test so, yea......

I ran a stop sign during the driving test the first time because there was a tree that blocked the sign, but I was just "supposed to know" because "of course, it's 5th street!".

I was vindicated when they tore down that tree a few years later because of all the cars running the sign.

I can't remember if there were any auto-fails, but this was like... well over a decade ago. I know that one of my friends who lived in a neighboring state failed theirs because the instructor said "turn left" at a red light and they did lol

I think the instructors get a level of discretion with the tests.

Three times. The first time I was super nervous and failed instantly because I pulled over but didn't come to a complete stop when an ambulance went by in the other direction. Derp. Second time was my best, but I made another stupid mistake I don't even want to talk about when I did pretty well otherwise. Third time was probably my worst overall because it was in my head at that point and I was making stupid mistakes, but she apparently felt bad for me and let me pass when I probably shouldn't have.

Man that's bullshit about your friend lol. Glad I never dealt with that.

My wife took her test in Ukraine and they have a police department that handles licensing tests and you have to use the car they provide (when she took it it was some old beat up manual transmission and of course they went on hilly roads), and they did the same shit, tried to get you to turn down one way streets and stuff.

3 times.

first fail was because when the intructor told me to get into a turn lane, there was a bike lane, and i didn't look over my shoulder. my only mistake, but an instant fail.

second fail was because when asked to back up in a straight line, i backed up a little bit on the curb. it was a really short curb, and one of the smooth curbs. only mistake, instant fail.

Kept failing for stupid reasons, like not being perfectly parked after the test (even though it's still within the lines). I also failed for not putting my seatbelt on BEFORE starting the car.
