Board 8 > Is Pillars of Eternity a good game?

Looking for something to play before I binge tf out of Spider-Man: Miles Morales in a week and a half.

I've heard it's good but I wanted the serious professional b8 opinion.

Also if it is and I play it how do I keep from horrifically crippling my playthrough since I understand it's one of those games.

It's okay. Torment: Tides of Numenara and Divinity (when played with co-op) scratch that itch better.

Yeah, I wanted to have a co-op buddy for Divinity as I've heard that one was good. Never heard of Torment though.

I wish I had the energy right now to give the full pitch, but I absolutely loved it. It helps if you have experience in isometric RPGs so you have a comparison point - like Planescape: Torment or Baldur's Gate 1/2 - but I felt it was better than the latter and on par with the former.

I loved it.

The Cipher class was so much fun to play as. I'm not a big fan of caster classes in a lot of games because I'm bad at spending resources- if I can only use something a limited number of times, I'll hoard it for way too long. Ciphers are melee/caster hybrids who earn spell points (or Focus) by hitting things, get a bonus to damage as long as Focus isn't maxed, and Focus resets to a level-based minimum when out of combat. All of which combined mean that even I was tossing out debuffs and AOE damage effects in every fight. Heck, after a while I was opening every combat by paralysing the closest enemy and stabbing it to death before it got a turn.

So yeah. Great game with one aspect that was designed pretty much specifically for me.

Oh, and there's a respec available so if you do wind up building a character badly, they can be fixed (for a fee).

I disliked it when it first came out because the combat took forever, but they added a patch to give teammates AI, which apparently speeds things up. That'd probably help.

i wasnt really a fan of it. BUt maybe i'll pick it up again. I've played a bunch of isometric games and I'd say it's competent but was not a fan of the narrative or characters.
