Board 8 > How many consoles & handhelds have you lost or died on you?

For me:
GBC - Lost it while on vacation
GBA - Died
DS - Died
3DS - Died (I want to get it repaired after the pandemic blows over though)
PSP - Died

Man what's up with the handhelds?

Meanwhile my consoles are still doing fine (the oldest I have is a PSX).

For me personally, I only consider their latest condition. My Wii had a problem but after I sent it to be repaired, it's working fine (mostly) now.

The only console I've had die was my original PS3 and the YLOD (twice).

I've sold everything else before they could die on me.

SNES, PS1, Gamecube all died. Thankfully the latter two don't really matter due to PS2 and Wii. Losing the SNES was definitely sad, though. I should have bought another one when they were really cheap.

Two 360s lost, one had a RROD and one I fixed the RROD but something was fucked with it and it would overheat still

My first PS3 died but I can't remember how

My PSP still works but the Wi-Fi card is shot somehow, I can't turn on Wi-Fi at all

Similarly one of my two PS2s (my dad gave me his) "works" but barely, it only boots up like 75% of the time and when it does it actually reads the disc like 25% of the time

My dad also had his own PS1 and N64, I have no idea what happened to either of them when he moved but I guess they weren't really "mine"

The hinge on my original DS lite is shot and it doesn't really stay open at the right angle, it flops around. One time I was carrying it in my pocket and bottom screen somehow cracked and to this day I have no idea how because it was in my front pocket at a movie theater and I can't imagine anything hitting it hard enough for the screen to crack as much as it did while closed. I paid Nintendo to fix it.

I also sat on my girlfriend's 3DS like two months into dating her and broke the screen, she was fucking livid. I don't know how she didn't break up with me. I paid Nintendo to fix it.

Other than that I have never lost a console/handheld and I have never had a handheld die on me completely

DS fat - Dropped as a kid getting mad at New Super Mario Bros, top screen stopped displaying anything. used as a game boy micro mega from there on out until it stopped charging
PS2 2 - gran turismo 4 b-spec still be like
DS lite 1 - left on a plane (rip super princess peach :( )
DS lite 2 - left on an amtrak (rip yoshis island ds :( )
Wii - doesnt read discs so its basically a mega man 9/10 machine
Famicom - only one I've busted as an adult. used the wrong power cord and fried the fucker on accident. felt like a moron for months but now I have an AV so that's cool

I have lost consoles/handhelds before, but I always found them eventually. Currently everything I have is accounted for and working.

Four. An NES that broke apart on the inside, a Genesis whose power button stopped working, a PS1 that stopped reading discs, and a Wii whose disc drive malfunctioned.

My first PS1 was pawned by mom and she never got it back.

I have no idea what eventually happened to my original Gameboy, Pocket, Color, Advance, SP, or second PS1. I guess they just sat in drawers or something and were eventually thrown out.

I lost my PS2 and Wii through a falling out with my first roommates (the PS2 wasn't doing great by then though).

My DS and 360 were stolen during a move.

Everything else I still have (3DS, New 3DS, PSP, PS3, PS4, Switch).

Had a PS2 die but it was from being banged around in my suitcase when I emigrated so not really sure that counts.

Never had anything die or even develop any sort of problems from just playing though.

Only one that for sure committed seppuku was my xbox 360. Got the RROD back literally on the day of Halo odst launch
Sister broke our PSX back in the day, I still have/ sold everything else i believe. My fat launch PS3 dis start to get really hot and actually shut itself off but I eventually sold it to someone for parts.

I've had two Xbox 360s stop working. The first one never turned on at all and the second got the RROD and stopped reading discs after a couple years of owning it

Probably around 7 360s died on me during the span of 2009-2016. Around 6 PS3s too from about 2012 to this year in fact!

Also lost my original DS in 2008. Left it behind in a restaurant by accident, and I tried going back for it but it was gone.

PSP was dropped on the floor around 2010 and that broke.

I think that's it.

Original nes, VCR version, wont turn on. This happened in like 1992.
Game gear, screen wont turn on. This happened in like 2005.

I said 0 but I forgot about my original Gamecube that broke. I sent it to Nintendo and they gave me a replacement which still works over 15 years later.

i have a ds lite with a broken hinge and a gba sp with garbage battery life but they're still fully functional

I lost my Gameboy Pocket

members of my family think I sold it to someone but I really didn't. Quite hurtful!

and my original 360 died on me. it was repaired twice.

I eventually got a slim 2nd hand. I kept the old hard drive and was able to transfer it to my new one

I had a launch PS4 with those sensor buttons that didn't necessarily die, but it started having that issue where the sensors on the buttons would go nutty and the system would start resetting itself/put itself to sleep/etc. while playing.

2 DS lites. Third one is mostly broken with the buttons being worn out and the top screen non-functional.

I lost more than one Gameboy/Color when I was a kid. Bid farewell to a disused, broken GBA and PSP. A PSP was stolen. 2 modded 360s fried. I think a gen 1 DS died or was traded up for a Lite, which also broke and was replaced with the current Lite. 3DSes are both still alive. Vita broke down once and was sent in for repairs. That's probably everything.

Never lost one (although I have no idea where my original Xbox is now... a few weeks ago I had the revelation that it should be somewhere in my house but I cant find it and I dont remember getting rid of it?)

only one SNES die 100%, but a bunch have had their disc drives fail which in the case of a GameCube may as well be death. My Wiis disc drive is busted too so I have no way to play GCN discs anymore.

Voted 3-5 but I forgot I've had 3 ps2s crap out on me so 7 actually

(Also a ds lite, my launch(ish) period 3ds only lasted a few months, the second's kind of still usable but has a lot of issues and I think I accidentally left my gb micro at a convention 6 years ago)

The first 3ds was the saddest, most preventable death
Woke up with a bleeding nose and decided to take a photo using it... 10 seconds later, it would never turn on again

I had the screen die on two original model GBAs within 3 years of launch, I never abused them in any way so IDK how that happened

Everything else still works fine, AFAIK

My 2DS broke when I put it in a tight suit jacket pocket. By the time I got it back out again, the screen was broken internally.

I lent out my NES at some point, but I don't remember who and so it's lost now.
