Board 8 > Are vampires, werewolves, mummies, and ghosts monsters?

I maintain that they are, but my sister says they aren't. Her husband is completely opposed to her in this as well.

Ghosts I guess I could see an argument for as long as they still look human but I would say in a story setting they are.

Vampires and werewolves it depends (especially werewolves). Sometimes they are just evil/mindless monsters, other times they're portrayed as basically humans with powers and run the whole gamut of human morality.

i think I would lean yes to all having monstrous traits, with ghosts being the only one I have questions on (because theres plenty of examples of neutral or positive ghosts where as most of the others are overwhelmingly negative)

IIRC, some of the early Pac-Man games officially referred to the enemies as 'monsters' before changing the term to 'ghosts', definitively proving that they're the same thing.

It depends on the lore we're following.

Take vampires for example, are we talking demonic vampires that were never human or humans turned vampires? Because I'd say the answer is different for both.

Though regardless how you define monster, the answer for all of these is still probably going to be, sometimes; it depends on which interpretation you are going by.

you could have an alien monster, but I dont think most aliens are monsters because theyre normal for wherever they come from

Since Dracula, The Wolf Man, and The Mummy are all marketed as Universal Monsters, they are monsters. However, there is no ghost in the line-up so they are disqualified.
