The most recent one I can think of is The Division 2

An mmo called Horizons. Came out in the early 2000s. I remember following news of its development before release. It was maybe the most ambitious video game world ever attempted. Stuff like players running their own society with player run governments. One of the player races was aquatic and just for that race, there was an entire other world landscape under the sea as big as the surface world. Anyway there was tons of other shit
But 90% of the planned features got canceled from the final product. It ended up being a very bland and generic fantasy mmo

Square really knows how to disappoint me:

KHIII
Moreso, XV and KH since I waited a damn near decade for those games

I'd be a fool not to name drop No Man's Sky too. I love it now, but when it first came I out, I couldn't help but feel lied to.

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. I paid full price for that turd on PS2.

I veat it multiple times, because the flying was decent enough and I wanted to get all of the secrets. But for $60 on PS2? Total fucking ripoff.

J-Stars Victory Vs. Seriously, what fighter doesn't have a training mode? This aint SF2 days...

And I never play the story/arcade mode in fighters, so I never really beat them I guess?

The one that jumps immediately to mind is Kingdom Hearts 3. I'd seen people say that it was a letdown, but I don't have super high standards, so I thought it might be alright. And tbh, it's not bad for a good chunk of the game, but the last like 10-20% of it is just such a hot mess that it brings the whole thing down.

Thinking about it more, WoW Cataclysm might be up there too, but that might have been more burnout on my part.

Maybe the Golden Axe games after the first.

The first one killed it, full stop. The others..just didn't live up at all, imo.

I guess that could be said for a lot of games. But Golden Axe is unbelievably on point.

The Last Of Us. I played it much, much later than most people and all of the praise it got had me excited. Was pretty underwhelming. Not a terrible game, but overrated to hell and back.

Project x Zone. It looked like a super fun strategy game with a ton of awesome crossover characters.

Turns out it's beyond boring to play. I could not finish it.

Doki Doki Literature Club

People really hyped it up but it was a huge letdown. You have to get through about an hour of boring dialogue before anything interesting happens.

Oh, Shadow of the Colossus is a letdown for me too, I guess. I didn't get any of the epic majesty other people talk about, it was just an exercise in tedium and frustration.

I'm honestly having a really, really hard time enjoying it. I can't focus on a task because of all the bullshit. Climbing up a mountain? Okay, get 3/4 of the way up, then its gonna rain and lol grip and stamina. Fighting a pretty tough enemy? Here comes a lightning storm, better unequip every single metal piece of gear because you are 100% getting struck and killed if not. Enjoy this motion controlled shrine while you bend and twist the joycon in irrational ways to maybe get lucky 30 minutes later.

There are so many terrible decisions and design flaws that keep it from being fun for me. It's just a giant pain in the ass to play.

The only reason I didn't like PxZ was because you couldn't replay stages. Like in some Super Robot Wars game, I loved the Lancelot Albion from Code Geass. The problem was that you got it like 2 or 3 stages before the end of the game, so you needed to go through 60-something levels, then you had it for such a short time before needing to go through the entire game again <_<

I mean sure you could just make a save right before you got it, but then there are still only those few stages to use it on. I wish you could just keep all the units on NG+

Too Human. Demo was great. The trick is that the rest of the game is just the demo over and over again, but in uglier palette swaps.

I've heard this a lot, but I quite liked the story. It wasn't seat-of-your-pants by any means and it didn't really have any plot twists (it's blatantly obvious that Aloy is a clone from the beginning) , but it was interesting and well-presented.

It was the same sci-fi story I've seen repeated hundreds of times over the years. There isn't a unique idea in the entire thing, that's the problem I had with it. It was just a jumble of ideas from already existing franchises/stories thrown together for the sake of it.

Giving away Aloy's origins in literally the opening cinematic of the game was a huge mistake. That was the one interesting hook and they blew it immediately.

Not the most but it is most recent, the first new Star Wars Battlefront that came out some years ago. I knew when I was unimpressed with the beta that I made a mistake pre-ordering it. When the full game came out I didnt sink more than a couple hrs in it before shelving it forever

What do you think about Sylens? I thought he was probably the most interesting character in the game. You're not wrong that the game is pretty cliche, so I was expecting it to be the tried-and-true "asshole helper bonds with protagonist and ends up being their friend at the end." But no, he continues to be an asshole, reveals he's the cause of all of the problems in the story, says he'd do it all over again, and then actually does do it all over again.

I think it is somewhat unique to have a character that just doesn't grow or learn from his mistakes in the slightest lol.

Agents of Mayhem, that game looked so good and was made by the same people who made the Saints Row series. Man this game fucking sucks and just pisses me off while I'm playing it. This game could be so much better but it's just so hard to sit through anything in that game.

MGS5 Phantom Pain. I loved Ground Zeroes and thought Phantom Pain was going to be the best thing ever but it was so repetitive I couldn't take it anymore. I'll still toss on Ground Zeroes here and there since the gameplay is so tight but my God Phantom Pain was brutal. Got probably 3/4 of the way in a week and never touched it since
