Haven't played Rogue or Liberation

China and Russia were both excellent for what they were but it honestly feels like such a wasted oppurtunity to fully explore those settings. In particular, I'd been hoping for a Ming Dynasty Assassin's Creed starring Shao Jun ever since Assassin's Creed: Embers, so while I was hyped to finally play as her, I was ultimately a little disappointed it wasn't in a full game.

Imo the way they just straight up aborted the Desmond storyline with zero actual resolution after teasing us with present day stuff put it straight into last place for me.

I absolutely hated III on my first play of it, but coming back years later, when I take Desmond out of the equation, and with the patches and stuff, it plays somewhat better.

Still, thank god they found a way to make modern angles less tiresome in IV.

Ive been starting over since I switched from xblocks to playstation a few years ago. I'm almost done brotherhood for my 2nd time, having much better time with it. Hoping to survive 3 this time

If I was invested in that aspect of AC, then I feel for you. It was bad. But I already heard that part of the story was trash since so long ago that I was fully prepared to not care. I only played it for the first time last year.

This is difficult to do, because while 1 had by far the worst gameplay of the series, it's my opinion that the story and context immediately went to shit afterwards and only got worse from there

The cool part of the AC series was the mystery interleaved with parkour and combat- the secret societies and so on. In 1 you're not yet sure how the technology actually works and whether to take the lab technicians at face value. Altair is gradually learning new things along with the player.

Already in 2 nearly all mystery is gone, but at least they still try. everyone just somehow knows about all the secrets and secret societies and members are literally everywhere, but they still weave a plot about where these artifacts came from. Somehow everyone forgot about the societies by the time we reach the present day.

Imo, the onus is on the writers to advance new mysteries in each title

However, by 4 they had completely given up on anything interesting because it was too hard to do correctly. The series is now purely parkour, beautiful vistas and mild historical drama.

Yes, I'm disappointed, and dropped off the series a while ago. But I'm sure the newest game has the best gameplay yet.

I think 1 was the best idea and mandatory starting point for the series, and brotherhood is probably the ideal middle ground. Maybe 2. It's been a while

Yeah I hard agree that the premise was at it's best in the first game.
