By order of Her Majesty the Queen the Parliament has been prorogued.

If the Democrats somehow manage to take the Senate while Trump wins reelection, I bet he'll want to prorogue Congress!

Replying to this from the previous topic:

It seems like, when the Establishment is in power, Tulsi rails against them. When liberal ideals start to take hold and gain popularity, now shes railing against THAT. Dont get me wrong: a message of stop attacking your own party is good, but it comes across as opportunistic, and an attack in and of itself, when coming from Tulsi Gabbard.

A few weeks ago she was on Tucker Carlson speaking against the Establishment, now she has gone on the Rubin Report to speak against those further left than her.

Sounds like she has just gone full centrist who decided her winning strategy is to find fault with Democrats in general.

Or shes not a centrist OR a liberal, and theres a reason right wingers love her so damn much: she exists solely to sow discord in the Democratic Party.

Trump fired Bolton, which is good news

FWIW, Bolton disputes this and claims that it was he who offered to resign. Neither one of them is trustworthy, but given that Trump lies every single time he opens his mouth and has in fact done the "you can't quit, you're fired!" thing before (with Mattis and probably other people I'm forgetting), I'd guess that Bolton's more likely to be the one telling the truth.

My guess is that it went something like this

Bolton: Heres what we should do about the Taliban

Trump: No, I say we handle it like this

Bolton: Why am I even here then? If youre not going to listen to me I may as well not be here.

Trump: Fine then, get out of here

And thus both believe that they made the choice to end the relationship

Read an article in the Guardian about how Boris Johnson has been trying the Trump model of dealmaking in the UK and it hasn't been working. They correctly identified the problem - the Trump method requires that your own party follow you in lockstep, no matter how unhinged you sound.

I think it's a testament to the strength of the GOP nomination process. 1 year of all-out, winner-take-all battle, decided by the voters themselves, ending with an agreement to support the winner unconditionally. Whereas the Tory MPs can argue that Boris was elected by the party membership and MPs only, which is a tiny fraction of the party's voters.

The key is you need to give people an opportunity to air their grievances. If you don't do it in the primaries it will be done in the general, and then you lose votes. Democrats trying to get Democrats not to attack each other would do well to learn that.

Haven't really read up on the news yet besides what's been said in this topic but my snap reaction to Bolton out is "that's a good thing." Even though Trump's replacements are almost universally all downgrades a) I feel like a downgrade from Bolton would be difficult to achieve. b) To the extent we see a downgrade it'll probably be someone who has like... zero experience in the field which while awful, is arguably a different kind of awful?

NBC has called the NC-3 special election for the Republican (Greg Murphy).

Polling people I follow (Harry Enten, Dave Wasserman) are saying that NC-9 (the one with the election fraud in 2018) is looking very close.

Oh okay, I was confused there because I was pretty sure Bishop was the Republican running in NC-9. That being close is a good thing, it was like a Trump+12 district. Obviously you want the win, but it being close at all is a bad sign for Republicans going forward for 2020. They've already poured a bunch of resources into this race too.

I think I am just a bit annoyed with all the controversy with his presidency. A lot of it is manufactured garbage, but some of it is just nonsense he doesn't need to get into. I am not sure if it is a byproduct of the new social media presidencies or not, but it is annoying. Also, he isn't trying to bridge to the other side and promote a cohesive America which I think a president of any side should do. You should be representing all Americans, not just "your side".

It sucks because policy-wise he is pretty much a dream candidate for me. But, he continues to stoop to a level he can just ignore and makes a rise out of it.

The problem is the left candidates have to pander to crazy as fuck leftist ideas due to it being their base, and half are out to literally destroy my job lol.

A dream scenario would be Trump sees he isn't gonna win in 2020 and steps down and says he feels he is too old to run, a good candidate like Romney runs against Biden, and the age argument for Trump stepping down is used strongly against Biden.

Though Biden is one of the few Dems I could support.

I am not sure how much it relates. I almost think Trump on the ballot boosted republican results on that election term.

The question is, will Trump do so again.

You could argue if you fielded a better candidate than Clinton that you would have crushed a lot of the Senate and House seats in 2016 also.

If Trump wins in 2020, they will likely have boosted numbers in the house and Senate also.

I am not so sure that Toomey wins the Senate seat in PA without Trump. Clinton united typical Dems against the Dems with her anti coal talk. Which in turn united them against that woman who was an old DEP worker.

Most people think coal jobs is mining and power.

That's why when Clinton said she wanted to kill coal, she didn't realize how much if the chain and affiliations it was affecting.
