...but they won't tell you anything more about the nature of the job, save for the fact that you will be paid when it is done and that if you agree to do it and subsequently change your mind, you will be killed.

You are free to ask as many yes or no questions as you like before deciding whether to accept the job or not, and the person will answer honestly, but there is a catch: for every question you ask, your payment decreases by half. Furthermore, you have to ask all the questions at once and no follow-up questions will be allowed.

How many questions would you ask and what would they be?

The person did approach you, but if you wanted to be absolutely certain you'd have to ask.

For what it's worth, I'll toss in as a freebie that if you fail the job while earnestly trying, you forfeit the pay but won't be killed - it's only if you deliberately abandon the job or refuse to do it that the hitmen come out.

When asking these questions, are the answers assuredly correct? I.E. Is the person answering them all-knowing?

I would ask if it would get me sent to prison, if it would result in my wife leaving me, and if it would be something I'd find too physically disgusting to do. I could live pretty comfortably for the rest of my life on 1.25 million dollars.

Not all-knowing, presumably (the person is just a normal person, so far as you can tell) but they will answer honestly and won't hide anything pertinent from you.

Technically speaking, if the payment is reduced by only half each time, then you'll never get to actually $0. You'll always have fractions of a cent as payment!!

I would cheat by cramming multiple clauses into a single question:

Is any one or more of the following true: (1) There is a high likelihood of my death; (2) I am not realistically capable of completing the mission; (3) The mission involves my committing any of [a list of crimes that I would find unpalatable]; (4) The mission will take more than [some length of time]...; or (n) Some other deal breaker.

If the answer is "Yes", then I know I do not want the mission, but I do not know exactly why. If the answer is "No", l accept.

$5 million payout is still pretty nice, and that will tell me whether it'll be something I want to do or not. Sure, it relies on the employer in question having omniscient knowledge of my personal values and morals, but if the scenario defines that the person must answer my question honestly, that's conveniently included in the scenario.

What if the job was to go to prison to act as a middleman for someone, or something like that?

My question: Is it likely that I would be able to finish the job and could do so both in a reasonable amount of time and without any negative effects on myself or my family's well being?

Bam. Three questions for the price of one.

How many questions I ask? None. Instead, I kill the man where he stands and decide to take the entire organization he respresents down with nothing more than my fists and a hot foreign woman named Margarita. After busting many heads, we'll finally make it to the office of the guy supposedly running this whole thing... only it won't be a guy at all. It'll be Margarita. Turns out she helped me all this way just so she could catch me off guard and get revenge for tearing down her organization with her help. With her pointing a gun at my head, it'll look like all is lost for me until I get a vision from out of nowhere explaining that I'm literally the last of an alien species with the ability to punch really hard. I'll start glowing green (because it's my favorite color) and, with one strong punch, Margarita will explode into a gigantic pile of coins and bills adding up to approximately $10,000,0000. With the organization gone, I become a hero and am allowed to keep every cent that came out of Margarita. I'll then sell the rights to my story so that they can make a movie about me. They cast Chris Hemsworth as me due to our uncanny resemblance to each other but, other than having Margarita's organization specialize in dog sitting, they get the whole story wrong due to "artistic vision" and my movie bombs hard.

It's all good, though. I'll be too rich to care.

Well, you're the one getting paid millions (potentially) for the job.

Not to mention, if it wasn't yes or no questions, you could settle it easily with a single question: "What are all the details of the job?"
