Honestly when I see stuff like this it just makes me feel really bad for fat people, even though I don't agree with what they're saying here. It has got to suck something awful to be that fat.

Yeah pretty much

Although I do agree that people that rag on fat people just because they are fat are kinda pathetic. It pretty much always comes off as people trying to put others down because they are insecure about themselves.

I mean, the average person cant change their skin colour but can change their weight. Outside of those with a rare genetic disorder, being fat is a result of lifestyle choice and thus can be disapproved of without making anyone a bigot.

You dont need to make somebody feel bad, but you also dont have to find them attractive because theyre human or that youll offend them for obeying your own preferences... thought police suck.

I'm fat as hell, I know it isn't healthy, but I enjoy how I look as well as my life style.

I don't expect others to like me, I fully accept if people dislike me for it, I'll still be kind to them and do my best to accept their choices to dislike me for my choices. I can't of course hope for people to respect my choices if I don't respect theirs.

Lots of dudes here are rail thin (which is also unattractive) or overweight. Few actually lift and have a decent looking body.

Strangely enough I've seen even some users here who I know for fact are fat, shaming fat women to get skinnier. Makes no sense.

My ex had an obese friend I couldn't stand. I'd make food when I heard she was coming over because I knew she'd ask for some. Then I'd go into the other room and quietly laugh to myself.

So call her out on her bullshit. Giggling about her weight in another room is just mean, even if she is a bitch.

He is entitled to think that way, he even admitted that he never said anything to her face. He is allowed to think what he wants to think and even if it's not something we would agree with that's totally fine.

Agreed. It's possible to disapprove of something without being mean about it. You shouldn't call fat people names and shit like that, but if they're not making any effort to lose weight then they absolutely deserve constructive ridicule.

This so much.

Look. Fat people are people too and don't deserve to get made fun of or negatively discouraged by assholes. They should be respected and treated neutrally like everyone else.

But fat empowering shit like "big is beautiful" or "thick is beautiful" doesn't encourage them to live healthier and sends them the message that they're attractive and don't need to try.

If a friend of yours is fat and you care about them, be a guiding light while they are around you. Choose healthier options, don't make activities around food (southerners are guilty of this), etc.

Idk man. Food as an art/tradition shouldn't have to suffer because some people are lazy or have no self control. Thats kinda just sweeping the problem under the rug.

People really do need to stop telling people that are on the journey of losing weight (or thinking about it) that they don't need to change. It makes no sense, it's literally telling people that they have no need to better themselves. That's dumb.

I've seen a lot of women say that they were confused because when they were trying or thinking about losing weight, people would tell them they were just fine the way they were and so when they thought about putting more effort into it, they decided against it.

Most people who say this are doing it to protect their own ego. If you admit someone around your weight or thinner is fat and should lose weight then the same should be applied to you. People don't want to face that truth so they tell others they're fine as a way to tell themselves they're fine.

You shouldnt be ashamed of being fat. The problem is that people make too many assumptions about what being ashamed actually means. If you have to buy two plane tickets because you dont fit in a single seat: fair. If you have to pay more for health and life insurance because you have a health issue: fair. If someone doesnt find your size attractive: fair. If they dont make those clothes in your size: fair. If someone is oinking at you while you are walking down the street: thats obviously shaming someone and not fair. If someone is seeking you out just to tell you to lose weight: thats shaming.

Both sides are bad. There's a limit to being a little overweight and once you're past that you should be encouraged to lose weight, not feel attractive. At the same time, the people on the other side who are acting like dicks are wrong to shame them.
So in the end the reaction is to make people feel better about being fat.

or basically this I guess

0 percent of people ragging on fat people on the internet care about their health or well-being. So that angle is ridiculous.

Though the "fat acceptance" movement leans a little too far at times. But cringy picks like in the OP aren't exclusive to fat people/fat acceptance.

Religion, atheism, politics, gamers, musicians, cars, gay, trans, men, women, vegans, non-vegans, white, black, young, old.

There's a cringy facebook infographic for every creed. So acting like this is something special just an excuse to make fun of a socially acceptable target.

For those who think that shaming overweight people makes them lose weight, I urge you to read this:

https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/fat-shaming-makes-things-worse#section2

It contains numerous studies that disprove that fat-shaming causes people to lose weight. It also has other useful pieces of information.

When people are discriminated against, it causes stress and makes them feel bad.

In the case of overweight people, this stress can drive them to eat more calories and gain even more weight (3).

In a study of 93 women, exposure to weight stigmatizing information made overweight women, but not normal weight women, eat more calories and feel less in control of their eating (4).

In another study, this time in 73 overweight women, those who watched a stigmatizing video ate 3 times as many calories (302 vs 89) afterwards compared to women who watched a non-stigmatizing video (5).

This is supported by numerous studies showing that "fat shaming" in any shape or form causes overweight people to become stressed and end up eating more calories and gaining more weight (3).

Yeah that excuse is 100% BS and I always call it out when see it. Most of these same people have nothing to say when people do blatantly unhealthy stuff (like smoking for example) but all of a sudden they are on a crusade for health when it's in regards to fat people.
