Should I finally play Super Mario Sunshine? I've played a little in the past, but it was so long ago that I remember almost nothing. I won't be getting Odyssey until December if at all.

The Pachinko machine isn't that bad.

Just don't torment yourself trying to get all the blue coins and you'll walk away with a more favorable impression of the game.

That's nowhere near as bad as GG made it look, imo. There's just a lot of tedium for little if no reward. (I don't even recall an SM64 amount of reward, but my memory may be failing me.)

Yeah as people have said, play through it but only get Shines that you are interested in obtaining. A lot of them are simply tedious and unfulfilling to obtain, not the crisp platforming you'd find in the better 3D Mario games.

SMS has a lot of neat ideas with some moments of excellence, but also there is discouraging BS in the way too. I wish they'd try the FLUDD idea again now that it's been a long time to analyze what worked and what didn't. Give it a shot and see for yourself!

If I remember right about 120 shines, you get none of your wasted time back from those blue coins whyyyyyyyy and also you get an extra CONGRATULATIONS screen after you wreck Bowser and are offered sunglasses that darken your screen as you replay the game on your 100% file.

SM64 did a much better job rewarding players.

Cappy is sort of FLUDD-esque, except it's a good gimmick and the best parts of the game aren't the ones where you can't use it. On the contrary, the Cappy-less sections tend to be the most annoying.

It's the only 3D Mario I've never cared to replay or even revisit. Well... I tried once (even made a topic on B8) and stopped after one friggin Shine.

Just started Odyssey a bit ago, Cappy feels like a natural part of Mario's kit. It flows with Mario's movements(And lets you do some pretty crazy jumping maneuvers, which are a ton of fun). FLUDD always felt like you were playing a different game when you had to use it.

Oh, it's undeniably better implemented, which is why it's actually fun. I think they were going for something similar to FLUDD with Cappy though.

Sunshine was always my favorite Mario game, but that's probably because I'm not a huge Mario fan. I just love the visuals. The beach setting is so beautiful and any game with an abundance of water is a winner in my book.

Yeah, kinda. If you could blast forward in midair with FLUDD like you can with that thing, it'd have been a lot cooler.
