I'm actually a little upset that Nintendo finally took the idea that had been floating around for so long in the public consciousness - hire an established Metroidvania dev to make a new 2D Metroid game - and they went with such a middle of the road choice

Graphics are garbage but hopefully there's a way to emulate it in high res

Gameplay looks okay... the movement is slower and has way more animations and such, but it still mostly retains the feel of 2D Metroid from what I can see. Melee is really cool. But the 360-aiming seems kinda lame. Not sure if you hold a button to root yourself and use the stick to aim, or you use the touch screen to aim. Either way, shooting without moving is so not Metroid.

But hey, bomb jumps (and, on second look, wall jumping), can't complain too much.

How is that safe? Metroid 2 is like the most non-traditional game in the series that's not a spinoff.

I don't know what people are expecting from graphics on the 3DS, honestly. And I think this is enough of a departure from Metroid 2 that it will be very entertaining. There's a pretty decent amount that's changed.

ALBW had brilliant graphics though, the shifted perspective let it look impossibly good given the shit 3ds screen

This one doesn't actually look THAT bad compared to other 3ds games... the style is nice, just could be better

People should know by now that 3DS games always look better in person than in videos. Mostly because 3D of course, but still.

I love the 3d feature and wish more games would go all in on it. Hell even something like Shovel Knight looks way better with 3d on.

As for the graphics, they're fine? I wish it wasn't 2.5d, especially since I'm working through Owlboy right now and would kill for more games with that beautiful of pixel art.

I see that I didn't communicate my point well enough.

Any modern game not going for a retro aesthetic would most likely be using a drawn style for 2D art instead of pixels, which is what most people think of when "sprites".
