I tell my job I can't work x day

They schedule me x day

I tell them the day the schedule comes out I can't work x day

They say ok but then get pissed when I don't come in x day

If not then your fault.

You aren't guaranteed to get time off simply because you requested it. If you were on the schedule and didn't come in it's your fault ultimately and they can punish you rightly for it.

That being said, it'd be nice if they could accommodate you, but they aren't required to do so.

Basically this
If 5 others asked for it ofd before you, they get forst dibs.

Depends when you asked fornit off also, if it was last minute for the request you kinda fucked yourself over. And you need to find someone that would have been willing to change once the schedule was up

Yeah this. Unless it actually got approved you don't have it off. That's why you shouldn't make concrete plans until you know you have the day off. How far in advance did you ask before they made the schedule for the day you wanted off?

I've gone through this before.. having two jobs and can't get a single day off. After about three months straight no days off I ended up telling them I needed a specific day off every week or I quit. I got my day off.

But I always came in when scheduled.

then get a job at a place that agrees you can have X day of the week off consistently.

your employer doesn't need to accommodate you like that. would it be nice? sure. but they set the schedules for their businesses.

I wouldn't say they accommodated it so much as they were able to work the schedule around it until this past Monday. In other words, still your fault.

If they agreed to it upon hiring it is their fault and they should be responsible for finding a replacement. In other cases I would agree with those posting though.

By definition, that is objectively incorrect. Being allowed to do something is the definition of "being right". Don't like it, renegotiate your contract.

If you got this in writing, they're wrong. If not, you failed to follow through and make sure there wouldn't be an issue. It was their mistake, but you're responsible for pointing it out and pushing to have it fixed.
