These were voters who were sick of politics as usual, who hated both typical Democrats and Republicans and who only got involved in politics in that election because they thought something different might be on the table. These were voters who were sick of politics as usual, who hated both typical Democrats and Republicans and who only got involved in politics in that election because they thought something different might be on the table. They were not traditional "leftist" voters, the far far far more relevant factor for them was newness and a "fuck the system" vibe. These were not voters that were ever going to vote for Hillary, the most likely outcome was not voting at all, followed by voting for Trump. There's no evidence that there's any similar movement now because this isn't that type of election. Trump is not considered a wild card anymore, he's a known, terrible quantity.
