Like, after habaneros, can you really say it doesnt taste like burning?
Different strokes, different folks, sure. There just has to be a level of human tolerance to this extract and pepper x, right?

I do. Back when I would eat out there was this awesome local burrito place with these 2.5 pound burritos and they made their own salsa, all different heat levels. I loved it when their ghost pepper salsa was in season. It was pure ground up ghost peppers and it was outstanding. Id get 6 heaping scoops of it. 3 was standard, I always doubled it.

Also when I was in the Navy there was this excellent place with wings. A buddy and I would get a 50 piece bucket of suicide wings. They would make my mouth numb and make me sweat. I loved them so much. I miss it.

I have always loved hot stuff. Truly hot. Its great, but I dont want it to *just* be hot and obscure the flavor. But yes I want that intense heat.

I don't mind it as long as it's tasty but yeah after a certain point it tastes terrible to me if it's too spicy. Like they decided to sacrifice flavour in order to make that shit hot af.

I love it. The spicier the better. Every time I go to Thai food if they got a 1-10 scale I ask for 11.

I do that at Indian restaurants too. One time they brought it out to me and gave me some extra hot sauce on the side and I dumped it all in and ate it up and the owner was like next time let me know and I'll import some peppers way hotter than what we usually stock just for you.

Man that's definitely not true and IDK why people say this. If it was true, you could cover literal garbage in hot sauce and eat it and be like "just tastes like burning!"

I mean it depends on your culture. Hispanic culture has evolved so much over time. Ive had ethnic friends eat a Carolina Reaper in my face and the worst response between the three of them was Damn that was a hot one. and grabbed a second pepper.

Most spicy foods with peppers around the habanero level taste like stinging heat to me, so I stick with jalapenos as my go-to.

Last year, I split one of those "One-Chip Challenge" chips with a co-worker, and after five minutes, it was two hours of borderline hospital visit stomach pain.

Yes being Sourh Indian means I grew up on what most other people call extremely spicy food. For me it's normal.

Also for those saying after a point it just tastes like burning. What is your ethnicity and culture? The American idea of heat is exactly what you described. Hot just for the sake of being hot. In certain countries the flavor is retained with the extreme heat. India being an example of this. Thai being another.

Also if you don't grow up eating this kind of food, I can understand only ever tasting the burn. It's something you have to get used too. It does take a while to adjust.

It both is and isn't true. If you eat something way outside of your tolerance then yeah it'll just taste like burning. Once your tolerance catches up, you'll start tasting the flavors.

I personally do. I do hot wing contests in my area.
it's weird, when i was younger i used to think cinnamon was spicy. had a serious case of minnesota mouth.

you get a sort of euphoric feeling when you eat super spicy food, like your whole head tingles. and once it's spicy past a certain point, it's all the same. pain is pain, and it's hard to tell a 9 from a 10 on the pain scale.

Anything prior to habaneros has no kick whatsoever, and it takes a looooooong time before you get to the point where the heat starts to actually matter for anything beyond extremely nuanced + light dishes.

It varies depending on a couple of factors. Pickled ones all tend to be mostly but not entirely mild, but on the fresh side of things they can be anywhere from essentially bell peppers to I'd say about 70% or so of a haba.

If you buy the same brand/from the same grocer, they tend to have roughly the same level of spiciness, so it must be related to breeding or watering or something like that.

Anyway, yeah, they're definitely the shallow end of the spiciness spectrum, but a lot of people can't even handle those.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Spice is relative so what heat level you can handle shouldn't be a competition.

Ghost peppers do have smokey notes to them which might be brought out by roasting them. Idk I've never roasted ghost peppers but that could be the bbq flavor you're getting.

You got takeout so I have no idea what you actually got but proper spaghetti carbonara uses pancetta which has black peppercorns in it. Technically not "spicy" but someone who's really sensitive to that stuff might think it is.

Yes. What I usually eat is determined by what kind of heat I got.

I'll be planting habaneros in a couple of weeks though, I eat them raw.

I grew up eating spicy food and am super used to eating it often. I generally feel unfulfilled if I have a meal without some kind of hot sauce or peppers on it. That said, I tend to stay away from the spicier end of things and don't go beyond habanero too often because...

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I don't have the ass problem but it does turn my urine into lava these days. I thought I had some pepper on my hands before handling my pepper the first time it happened but I was super careful the next time and it happened again.

I will occasionally have ghost pepper, which has a flavor I do actually enjoy, but it has to be worth it.
