FortuneCookie posted... Working around doctors is like working around royalty. It's like having a caste system. You don't engage people in conversation if they're too high above your position.
Now, doctors will make requests of me from time to time, and I can chime in if someone throws out a general question such as trying to remember the name of a song or a specific actor, but that's about it. Plus, the obligatory non-conversations that people working and moving about in close proximity have like, "Thank you," "Sorry," "Excuse me," etc.
This one doctor will make a point to not verbally address me and also to get in my personal space even when I try and give ground. I don't have a lot of interaction with him (thankfully), so it isn't much of an issue. There's only been one time that he's walked into a room while I was talking to a patient. He held the door open while staring past me and didn't speak a word to the patient until I had exited.
I mean, there are worse things a higherup can do than give someone the silent treatment. It's not something I would in any way wish to retaliate over.
When I worked with doctors, it was only the old timers that were like that. Anybody under 50 was sound.
