by sheer happenstance, i figured out how to rob the castle vault

If you do Oskar's quest you can get the key to the vault, not 100% sure where it was, but it's in the area where he rings the bell. At the castle if it's night just put on the marcher armor, avoid the guy at the front door, and you can easily get in. Supposedly in daytime you can just walk in.

I've just got to Butterball city and found the sculptor, apparently you need to kill a medusa and get a withered medusa head to freeze the griffin, a petrified one does nothing. Apparently when you kill the medusa and pick up the head and starts rotting and eventually turns into a useless petrified one.

Finally maxed out my pawn, and now after a day or so break I can start playing the story. I've just been grinding in the desert for like 20+ hours. I'm pretty sure that one guy loyal to the actual Arisen in the capital is dead because after I found the village he mentioned he never showed back up at the bar, so I'll have to visit the morgue then

Also I saw Oskar or at least another NPC also named Oskar in a carriage to get through the Checkpoint Rest Town gate which was odd to me, so I picked him up and tossed him out of the cart. Hope I didn't bug anything

wtf the max level of this game is 999. Thought it'd be 200 like the 1st.

Alright so apparently according to Reddit, if you get hit with a DP nuke then all you gotta do is pass time by (sitting on a bench, etc) and it should respawn most if not all side/main quest NPCs

Which kinda makes DP even more useless and just a big inconvenience lol

34 hours in and I finally got my first crash.

We can fire off basic magic attack while floating.

I can just stick an augural flare on enemies and hover around them while firing off basic magic attacks to set off the explosions. They can't reach me most of the time

I am a little miffed that magic floating got such a massive boost but they took away my dex class double jump.

I think I got the right attacks for my Thief pawn. She actually does stuff in battle now. The dash attack (forgot name), Plunder, the air spin one, and the one that pulls enemies. She also speaks Elvish and has fully upgraded Framae Blades which isn't bad considering I've barely done any story missions

augural flare would not target the guards at all for some reason (it has a target marker on them but it'd just hit the ceiling of the sewer)!! Tried multiple times.

Killed them solo this time just high thundermine + holy enchanted basic magic blasts.

Oh and no xp gain from them which sucks

I think in the 1st game you gained some xp from the guards. Pretty sure people used them for some type of afk training

Yeah, there's a part where you get attacked by endless guards, but they only target you.

So you get somewhere they can't reach, fuck off, let the Pawns murder a couple legions, come back to dozens of levels.

Good for that whole "you need 100 levels of Sorc to be any good" thing it has going.

Anyone ran into the elderly group of adventurers lol They helped me out taking out one of the bigger monsters.

When one of your pawns starts talking about how they know of a chest or whatever nearby and they ask you if they can lead you to it...how do you make that happen?

Because if I look at them and say "Go!" then the pawn that knows about my active quest objective will just start leading me to that instead.

Got mystic spear hand. It's fun but man do I miss the mobility/dodge of Thief lol. I know I get the gap closer right away but the R1 Dodge was just so handy.

Was oxcarting (damn these are so necessary without eternal ferrystone lol) and got jumped by an ogre AND a minotaur. Gave me like 2 vocation levels lol

Also I know it's early but I remember in the first game people made twink pawns. Pawns that would be like...level 10 or 15 but they'd have a ton of busted gear because they did suicide runs in Bitter black Isle. Wonder if there are peeps that'll do that and how long it'll take <__<

I just hit go and it works. Maybe turn off your quest marker until you are ready to go do that quest.

I solve this by storing every bit of gear I find. I have 2 great swords, several straight swords, a magick bow, a couple of daggers, a sorcerer staff, 2 wands, some bows, etc. I don't sell anything off.

One of my hired pawns tries to cast bolide/meteron during every encounter. Doesnt get to cast it most of the time because either battles end too quick or they get hit. Works well the few times it does cast against bosses and fodder tho. Seems to be more accurate this time around

The meta for Dragon's Dogma 1 was only to unlock the first level of certain spells on your pawn, so they wouldn't sit there trying to cast the full powered version of it. That way they could synergize with you or other pawns, but you could cast the full-powered version or cut it off early before you get hit.

Honestly, I think it's better to just play DD:DA moreso than DD2 at this point in time. For a sequel to the first, it's so far behind what it should be after the series being dead for a decade. Enemies are shoehorned in everywhere(encounters almost feel diluted & not natural), lots of enemy variety missing No cockatrice or hydra is so bizarre, they're having to add basic features back in. The performance is bad on all systems on an engine several years old. The vocations are worse, the MTX are shit but that horse has been beat enough.

IDK how they messed this up so much, I should not have been as excited for this as I was after waiting so long since the 360 days. I don't feel like this game will be worth coming back to until we get the expansion later this year, & by some miracle it pulls a Dark Arisen to fix everything. UGH

I think waiting is honestly the best thing to do, that expansion plus the base game on sale will be much better to play once they've ironed out months of kinks

The enemy encounter rate is pretty crazy for sure. There could be groups of enemies every 20ish feet. I participate in nearly all of them so it takes multiple ingame days to reach certain locations (i try to rest whenever it turns night).

good idea. I will start looting more often once i get a bunch of ferry stones and port crystals (i hate being heavy). I'm gonna start making money through pawn quests. I've read that we have to set up a 10k reward of our own to have access to other's 10k rewards. Ill confirm it today.

It seems like Meteoron (bolide) and Maelstrom only have the 1 level and it does take a while to cast. No quick cast for it. Not sure if you can store them in a silence spell (which will take away the casting time w/ downsides to stamina regeneration and loss). The hired pawn does have the silence spell on them but they don't seem to use it for meteoron.

I didn't know about that meta btw. I always hired pawns w/ like the 3rd version of either bolide or maelstrom (needed rings for it iirc) lol. But that was ok since I knew some decent safe spots in BBI and such. Did take forever to cast anything that wasn't holy light balls tho.

I hate myself for trading in DD:DA as credit to get a Dualsense Edge a few weeks ago now LMAO
I traded it in because I played it a lot, thinking DD2 would be such a better experience. God what a fool I am lol

despite having fun, I fully agree. there was so much that they wanted to do with the first game but couldn't due to time and technical constraints (massive enemies IE shadow of the colossus was one I was hoping they'd include in this). they had no such constraints with this game afaik, yet they didn't even bother to push the envelope and played it safe

Yeah ignoring the context (12 years for a sequel, overhyping from the lead dev, etc) this game is a huge disappointment. Even then I'm still having a ton of fun with it and the only reason I haven't played more is because I was actually busy with work today. But once I fully pimp out my pawn with fully upgraded gear and beat the game, I'm taking a break until the DLC. And if DD3 is announced a few years down the road I'm pretty much gonna have zero hype for it until I see it deliver with my own eyes.

Feels like gaming devs in general have gotten lazier. The biggest offender by far is Pokemon with it being the highest grossing media franchise period, and the all GameFreak does is go through the paces to shit out something mediocre every few years. Makes me appreciate something like Elden Ring a lot more because it was a great application of the Souls formula where they clearly tried to improve on it even if it did fall flat in a few aspects. This game could have been DLC for the first game and you would probably not be able to tell the difference. Gamers wanted more of the first one, and they took that 100% literal by doing nothing new. All of the tech advances we've had in the last decade and it seems like most games are still stuck in 2010 mode rent muh pawn

sad to say it, but i agree with people saying 2's a disappointment, Dark Arisen's better, etc. the game has been a massive timesink, and i found myself asking why i'm playing, and not having an answer besides sunk cost. without even knowing it, a quest in battahl took me right to the end of the game, so i loaded a previous save, but now i'm just sitting here like, what the fuck do i do now? just backtrack and wander around for hours, hoping there's at least a couple more late-game quests i didn't miss? what's the point? just to get a couple pieces of gear that are worse than what you can buy at the last shop before the boss? where were all the cool dungeons like the first game had? i explored plenty, nothing fucking happens in the game world, no quests take you on a big adventure, you just walk from one city to another, over and over until the game ends

and then there's the endgame area. it's fucking timed. run out of time, start new game+ automatically, no new content, shotgun through the main quest, start the timed endgame, run out of time, automatically start new game+, shotgun through the main quest, etc etc. there's no point

God that sounds awful View at the ending, the fact it's that lackluster is pathetic.

the strangest part is there's an endgame vendor there to buy the big leet epixxorz drag0n best weapons and gear from, but the game is over! there's no postgame, no scaling in NG+, no multiplayer or additional modes to keep playing, nothing. and the level cap is 999. why? that made me think there was a lot to do, but boy was i wrong. it's crazy that not only did they not improve on the first game's weaknesses, they actually took things away! no postgame, no urdragon, no everfall, nothing. they replace all that with fucking dragonsplague and oxcarts. oh and sorry mystic knight fans, sucks to suck!

Escorted NPC, named looked familiar but didn't recognize it because there's an asston of NPCs and figured it wasn't important, decided to take him along to fight a dragon before I fast traveled across the map, dude dies fighting a random mob and it takes a while to find his body in a puddle, look him up and it's the guy that teaches you Warfarer

So instead of fighting a dragon like 300 or so feet away from where he died, I had to warp him to town and his destination since I didn't have a wakestone on me and revive him there. So much for the dragon fight (spot the body in the first image, it took a min for me to find him even tho he had a marker)

i'm just over shit like what you just described. what's fun about that? why can a major NPC even be involved in that kind of situation? you spend hours walking back and forth fighting the same goblins and wolves, then the game says fuck you and kills off an entire class for you without you even knowing. wakestones are plentiful and all, but what's the point of spiting the player like that? everyone can die, whole cities and quests can be deleted, is that supposed to be some kind of revolutionary thing? it just fucks over the player and deletes an entire chunk of your game. oh but it's okay, fire up new game+ and spend another 20 hours walking around and hope things work out this time now that you have the wiki open on your phone

It's funny in hindsight and memorable. I just wanted to fight a dragon before bed but it's literally the most minor shit. And the NPCs that teach you vocations don't have escort requests until after they teach you the vocation so even if he did perma die (which I doubt like the victims of the pawn AIDS) it doesn't matter.

i don't think vocations being straight up deleted from your game at random is "the most minor shit," and dragonsplague is definitely not minor shit either. if you don't care, that's fine, but this game has executed my goodwill at point blank after the 10th hour of walking between vermund and battahl
