Cause it is super popular worldwide? I think the popularity of Saint Seiya in Mexico over the world is more odd.

Probably because the Spanish dub of DBZ rules. I used to watch it when I was in high school. It still had the Japanese music but Spanish audio.

I think it blew in South America before anywhere else outside of Japan. It's kind of like how KoF is.

It appears that France as the first western country to broadcast Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Even various games from Super Famicom and Mega Drive had been localized there.
In Mexico it aired two years after the anime ended. And at the same time Dragon Ball was airing.

Latin America in general, it was one of the first anime they ever got, and it spoke to them just like it spoke to us North Americans.

It aired on prime time also they also got it way early compared to the US. My grandparents have seen it in it's entirety for example and they're 80ish years old

Spanish dubs are great. Also anime generally encapsulates that spirit of Lucha Libre

I don't know about Mexico itself but Spanish channels in America had a far less edited dub then the Toonami version people were watching in English

Maybe it has to do with the attitude towards death.

My guess is that Mexico has, or had, a very strong culture favoring masculinity. Being macho man.
And DBZ is a bunch of muscular men, or creatures, fighting and constantly trying to overpower one over the other.

It is, but apparently in Mexico it's even more so than typical.

As someone who grew up in Mexico from 1990 to 1999 I think the biggest contributing factor was that it aired in Canal Cinco (Channel 5) which is a free to air channel. We had a variety of anime back in the 90s in that channel, I remember watching Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Ramna 1/2 and Ghost Hunter Mikami in the 90s, and probably more that I can't remember. The original dragon ball first aired in 92 in Mexico so we had a head start compared to the United States and I recall it being popular around what little I can remember about school.

What did Zarbon sound like in the Spanish dub? Raditz was given a suave bandit voice but I only saw the first two episodes or so of that.

iirc anime was really cheap to syndicate back then, so a lot people grew up watching DBZ and it sorta took over. I think it's really funny that they rent out stadiums to having a viewing party for pirated streams of DBS lol

they had the entirety of DB dubbed before it ever even came to America. just as DBZ was getting popular here, in Mexico DB was already a massive hit and was constantly watched. America was late to the anime party. just because we bank off of it now doesn't mean we were there from the start.
