Had a 10% on cashback offer on one of my credit cards there and decided to try it. 1 cheeseburger with regular fries and no drink was almost $20. Said cheeseburger(single pattie) was one of their cheaper options also. With it alone costing around $14.50.

It. Was good but not enough to justify that cost. Went to Smashburger the following week when I was near. Their double cheeseburger, fries and a drink totaled $13.50. Everything was much better in my opinion from value, and taste even.

It's way overpriced.

Strangely, their selling point (not having many staff) should mean it's the cheapest.

If so, Id say its the highest prices compared to the amount of actual food you get. A half salad/cup of soup combo is nearly $20.

Ive been avoiding McDonalds the past year because people are saying a Big Mac meal is like 18 bucks but I went yesterday and its not even close to that. Still seems expensive but not that much. Id still rather have McDonalds or BK over Five Guys. Five Guys is lacking in that addictive fast food after-taste category. It tastes more like a homemade burger to me

I wouldn't call five guys cheap, but it's also not super expensive either. At least where I live, a burger, fries, and drink from five guys costs about the same as a quarter pounder, large fry, and drink from mcdonalds.
pretty good deal all things considered, especially cus a small fry from five guys is way more than a large fry at mcdonalds. also you can ask for extra fries and they'll usually fill up a brown paper bag with fries and not charge you more.

as for the most overpriced fast food? that's definitely jimmy johns. $10 for just a cold sub with mayo and iceberg lettuce? no thanks.

You must've gotten it in a downtown city area somewhere. Average price is around $8-9.

five guys is way higher quality than red robin. I've worked at both, and I would never. ever. suggest someone get red robin over five guys.
red robin? fries are frozen and are cooked in bulk. they are moved into a large bowl underneath a heat lamp and are portioned from there. there is no rotating the fries, new fries get mixed in with the old ones. a fry can sit in there for an entire shift before getting put onto a plate.
at the two red robin locations I worked at, literally every single staff member would reach into the fry bowl and eat from it. some would wash their hands before doing this, but most didn't.
fries are supposed to have their own dedicated fryer, but are sometimes cooked in fryers that are used for fish or breaded goods. this is mostly on busy nights, but I wouldn't risk the fries if you are gluten-intolerant or do not like residual fish flavor.
patties for all burgers are pre-made patties, and only the expensive signature burgers are not frozen, while the regular burger patties are frozen. all patties are par-cooked in an oven before getting put on a flame grill. no free peanuts. bartender strung me along for two months to get back at her ex-boyfriend.

five guys fries are fresh cut and are made to order, there are fries kept in rotation under a heat lamp for busy times, but 9 times out of 10 every order is made fresh and fries from the heat lamp are used to add to the bag (always ask for them to throw in some extra fries when they're bagging your order, especially if you go during a slow period between lunch and dinner. ask for extra bacon on the side too)
no beef is frozen, regardless of what you order. the patties are made by separating a big brick of beef into portions. no par-cooking in an oven, they're all cooked right on the flat top. also free peanuts.

The problem with Five Guys is that they have a standardized economic system.

Our food prices fluctuate. We do not base our price on anything but margins. We raise our prices to reflect whatever our food costs are. So if the mayonnaise guy triples his price, we pay triple for the mayonnaise! And then we'll increase the price of our product. About five years ago, hurricanes killed the tomato crop in Florida, and prices went from $17 to $50 a case. So a few of my franchisees called and said, "We're not using tomatoes. The prices are too high." I suggested using one slice instead of two. My kids were furious: "It should be two! Always!" They were right -- it's too easy to start slipping down that slope. We stuck with two slices, and so did our franchisees.

So, the past 10 year trend of price inflation on food costs, transportation costs, and real estate affected Five Guys much more than other franchises.

A Five Guys cheeseburger (double) is $11 where I live (and I live in a Midwestern city of like 300,000 people, not Manhattan or something like that).

For reference, around here:
Double QPC at McD's: $6.29
Dave's Double at Wendy's: $7.29
Double deluxe at Culver's: $7.49

So for burgers, it seems to be taking the dubious honor of most expensive. Probably also why I rarely go there anymore.

Does Five Guys have a drive thru? That's my baseline for a fast food joint.
The most expensive one I frequent is probably Fatburger. Last time I went I got a large Fatburger and an order of onion rings and I think I spent around $25 with the tip.

The one I went to was apart of a storefront so no. But the menu to me should be the biggest factor.

And Five Guys consist of nothing but burgers, hot dogs, fries and sandwiches. You dont get more fast food then that in my opinion.

They give you an obscene amount of fries. Fill the container and then just throw an extra scoop in the bag. I stopped getting their fries when I left my twenties.

They have a lot of condiments options. I love adding grilled mushrooms and its a free add on. I dont go there often but if I want a burger Id much rather go there than one of big name brands.

it's good but fast food in general is expensive. it's hard to find anywhere to get a combo meal for under $10.

but yea i go to five guys a lot less then i used to since prices keep going up and i feel like the quality isn't as good as it used to be. it used to be my favorite fast food burger. it's still up there but like i have this local bar i can get a bacon cheeseburger and fries for like $7-8 which is definitely better.

penn station is really expensive too. but guess that's probably sub places in general. most foot long subs are over $10 now. subway and some others you pretty much need to get double meat and that puts the sub at like $15+
