Damn this really is just Guardians of the Galaxy but more raunchy.

Clap Trap's voice being by Jack Black just feels so off too though. There is some charm missing from it that the games have always had.

Meh, it may be good. It may not. It's a crapshoot.

JackBlackTrap actually worked for me, but I dont know about the rest.

None of the characters seem like they're being too true to the game-canon versions of these characters. Tannis, especially. But Roland played by a comic and Tina not being over-the-top ridiculous, while Lilith plays the straight man in every joke just feels off.

That's not to say it can't be good, and it might be, but it's a pretty loose interpretation.

This casting is still so wild to me.

Is there a Razzie for worst casting?

The visuals and stuntwork look great, it's definitely Pandora brought to life. I just have no idea why we've got people cosplaying as Vault Hunters instead of the actual characters.

I do think that Tannis could probably be reinvented pretty well by Curtis, and it's tough not to think that Cate Blanchett could turn any role into her own. And if you aren't doing 1-for-1s, those are a pair of actresses that at least give me hope they can cook up something interesting. Jack Black and Kevin Hart definitely feel out-of-place, but there was at least one delivery in there by Hart that felt somewhat Rolandesque.

Greenblatt is going to have a tough time trying to match the manic energy of Ashly Burch though.

Claptrap is voice acted in the games. We can hear how he sounds all the time. It's where all of his charm comes from. How can his voice here be tonally such a miss...

Honestly this whole trailer is bizarre. If I skew my view a little, it actually is aiming somewhat in the right direction of whimsical nonsense set in a gritty action filled wasteland. But the actual execution is just sooooooooooo off.

Then again, the games lost sight of that tone too the more and more of them they make, so I guess the chances of Hollywood nailing it wasn't high.

This is pretty in line with my thoughts on it.

Tina's way too chill.

It's possible they toned down Tiny Tina because, well, she's a bit divisive to folks. I know plenty of people who don't care for the character, and maybe they thought if they matched her energy in the games, it may deter folks from wanting to see it or enjoying it.

So just leave her as a side character. Promoting her to co-lead and toning her down feels like they're trying to have their cake and eat it. "People love this character, so we want more of her. But also people hate this character, so let's have less of what makes her her".

They're not going to have an audience if they don't cater to fans of the game. Rather than playing things down for general viewers, they're going to alienate the only people they can feel confident would attend and drag their friends along. At least I can speak for myself there. I've been to all of like 3 movies in the last 5 years, but I'd see this if it looked legit. Right now, it feels more like a cash-in because of the character portrayals.

I noticed that, for a lot of trailers in the last few years, my general opinion is "it looks fine visually".
But then when you see the movie it sucks.

But that's because bad visuals is no longer a problem (well, when they have the budget for that) as technology came a long way
But sadly most movies suffer because of bad storytelling and acting
And considering how shitty the Borderlands games story is, the movie is probably going to be much worse (yay Tiny Tina as a lead role, I am sure everyone asked for that)
