It was very good the first time. It wasn't flawless by any means (a lot of wasted potential with the plot, specifically), and it had performance issues on the Switch, but it was still very fun to play and holds up against the rest of the franchise.

I care less about whether this is available on other platforms and more if this is just a directors cut or a brand new game like SMT4: Apocalypse was

It was a great game until the final area where a combination of a massive level spike and the switch hardware struggling to deal with a huge zone made me drop it. This should fix one of those problems!

How could it play better? SMTV has some of the best gameplay in any JRPG.

Also it sounds like other than some gameplay updates, this is not an integrated thing. You pick between the original route or the new route at the beginning of the game and they're both the same length (estimated 80 hours).

Oh man, until I read that about reallocating I had totally forgotten that you had to spec Nabohino in that game and it locked you in.

Minimap rotation is a bad feature and anyone who uses it is a bad person.

Interesting. Very strange.

I'm much happier with it this way. The story of SMTV was it's biggest weakness other than the performance, and not having to just play that again but with a Persona style insert girl peppered throughout is great news. Getting a whole new route makes it feel like I wasn't just a beta tester who wasted their money.

I'll just need to wait for this info to get confirmed rather than dwelling on it. Inwas happy enough with the 80 hours!

Konohana Sakuya isn't even a Persona original.

I mean it's been used in SMT before. Pretty much all demons/Personas are historical/mythological figures.

Athena (Aigis), Isis (Yukari) and especially Cerberus (Koromaru) are mainstays of the main series...

Takemikazuchi (Kanji) and Sukuna-Hikona (Naoto) too for P4 btw

And that's excluding ones with like one appearance in an old non-localized game. This is all modern SMT.

There's about a zero chance I play this, as much as I enjoyed playing through and 100%ing the original. Life is too short.

As someone who pretty much only plays through a game 1 time it does bug me that Atlus always seems to do this special edition. It works out for me here since I never played the original SMTV but it makes me want to wait to play Persona 6 until the inevitable 2nd edition.

It being more of a Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker situation instead of just adding extra content to the original story makes me more likely to buy this.

There's also a chance there's an actual upgrade path for people who already have a digital copy of V. The trailer says pre-orders for every other version, including physical Switch copies, start on 2/27, but it also says "details on digital pre-orders for Nintendo Switch will be announced at a later date." But if not then I'll just wait on a Steam sale.

It would depend on how different they are and how much I'm enjoying the game. It's obviously a little different here compared to something like Persona 5 Royal where it's just a complete upgrade I missed by playing the game too early.

What's the summary of new things I can't read japonese

• Hi Speed mode and auto battle available in fights

And then of course it actually runs like a real retail video game on other consoles.

Sounds like a day 1 buy

If the performance is improved and the new story is at least halfway decent, this legit might be a 10/10.

I mean the clips in that stream that came out afterwards looked smooth. I can't tell if it's 60 or not with that video quality and condensed brief map footage, but at bare minimum it's a stable 30.

The Switch footage from the direct looked just as chunky as the original release, though.

I like that they're giving every demon a unique skill, and also giving you new ways to interact with your ally demons (apparently it looks like it's a concept/mechanic being lifted from Soul Hackers 2).

I'm gonna be honest, I never really understood the complaints about the story. Not as in "this is good actually" but the story didn't leave much of an impression on me as good or bad. I never got around to beating it, was the ending notoriously bad or something?

Honestly my feelings were something like "this is Nocturne but worse," which is maybe damning praise because Nocturne's story isn't particularly good and is more about Vibes. But 5 has some vibes. Idk if there's something specific about it or if other people were holding it to a higher standard.

The story is just bland and empty. Some characters really didn't do much. It's not that it was bad, it was barely there.

Yeah, I ended up dropping it after making it through the majority of the third area, and the story had barely even started by then. There was just nothing there to keep me hooked when I started getting tired of navigating the world (and my understanding was I was about to enter what was being called a very annoying dungeon, so that didn't help).

Personally, I quite enjoyed SMT5's story. The characters were enjoyable, especially in the sidequests. Demeter rules. The problems, for me, arrived in the fourth area. The story goes in a boring direction, the less interesting characters get more focus, and the endings are lame. SMT endings are usually pretty over the top, so this was a letdown.

Best moment I'm the game is when that one guy did a full Vergil.
